So yesterday i was headed in to work and received a call from my dad, he told me that a friend of his wanted to take us to tejon so we could get a chance at a pig. I guess in conversation he mentioned that i spend alot of time hunting but have not yet harvested a pig. The only catch was i didnt get home from work until 11 pm and would have to leave first thing at 330 AM. Knowing that these kind of situations dont come around often, if ever, i said hell yes!. I moved to a new house a couple weeks ago so most of my gear was in boxes and hadnt been unpacked yet. I gathered what i could find: 2 rounds of non lead ammo, my 30-06, and a dull knife ive had for 15 years, my cheap binos, and my boots. I think i got 2 hours of sleep because of anticipation. We left town about 4 am and where in the field as the sun was coming up. We saw several different groups of hogs throughout the morning. The first shot i took was on a running boar at around 75 yards with a clean miss.:smiley_doh: i was dissapointed that the first actual shot i got on a pig was that close and i couldnt make contact. a short while later we drove over a ridge to see 12-15 pigs feeding in a valley below about 150 yards away and they didnt know we were there. I had plenty of time to pick out a nice size Boar and put a shot on him. I was a little high ending up with a spine shot that immediately paralized his rear legs. I was now out of ammo. The gentlmen that invited us to go with him put another round in him which was a low gut shot. He front legged it for about 30 yards before expiring. Needless to say i was pretty stoked. Then I put that old knife to work! That place is beyond awesome and has an incredible amount of game on it. I think we saw nearly 40 hogs today. i was back on the road and headed home to get ready to go back to work by 0845. I had just enough time to shower and head in for my shift. the boar was 168 lbs dressed out and will be sausage in my freezer soon. I have put in alot of miles and days in the field to find a public land hog and was hoping to do it on my own, but am very thankful to have been given the opportunity to experience a Tejon hog hunt. I hope to go back some day.

Nice hog! I'm in the same boat I haven't been able to add a pig to my resume but have been tracking them all over and chasing every lead I get.
