We were spending the last weekend at the lease for the good times and bs mostly when one of the guys friday said he saw some pigs at a stand that is rarely hunted. He went to shoot one but got the dreaded "click" no shell. They all left the premises quickly. I decided to take the bow and a stool and back up into the cedars around that feeder on Saturday evening to see what I could see. I found a cedar to back up into that was down wind of the feeder and stacked a few dead cedars up around me to break my outline. It put me at 15 yards from the feeder. A little closer than I wanted but was the best place i could find quickly. I had 2 does and yearling try to come into the feeder around 5:00 but they could tell something wasnt right so they hung up on the other side of feeder around 25 yards out. They stayed around for about 10 minutes before snorting and leaving. I saw some black legs moving through the brush around 5:30 and instantly thought "Pig". I drew before he came out from behind the last cedar thinking at that range I did not want to risk drawing with him in the open. He rooted under the cedar for 30 seconds or so before moving towards the back side of the feeder. He walked behind the feeder and was quartering away at around 21 yards when he cleared the feeder legs. I let the rage fly and saw it hit pretty good(maybe a little high) but good front to back with the angle. He took off instantly with around 12 inches of arrow sticking out. I watched him circle through the cedars with the arrow still flopping. I gave him around 15 minutes and went to check the blood and found some around 10 yards from where I shot him at. I decided to go back to the truck and get the pistol since he was headed into cedar thickets that you almost have to crawl through. I called my father who said if I wanted him to would come bring extra light before I started so i waited for him. We trailed him about 50 yards and found him laid up under a cedar stone dead. I took him back to camp for pictures and got the hindquarters and back straps. He is my first pig and second animal with a bow but wont be my last. I am filling the feeder I usually hog hunt at tomorrow and moving the pop up blind over there.

Sweet! I have yet to get an animal with a bow. However, if luck is with me I'll at least have an opportunity this weekend. I've invited some friends from Oregon down to the ranch I hunt. They are rifle hunters, but if I can get them tagged out early enough, I'll take my bow out. Thanks for whetting my appetite.
