Personally, I think around 150 is about perfect. Not too old, not to much to handle in the field, butchers pretty easy. I've taken a 200 pounder and it still tasted great, but it's a struggle without help.

From my experience... I've killed a handful of pigs all from public land in California (check out my started threads for pics)... Never used such a thing my friend...

That's plenty for a hog, just hit them right. Their vitals are lower than on a deer, and their spine loops down further than it looks with a hunk of muscle above the neck. There are pictures on line that illustrate this. Just aim right in the middle of the boiler room and they'll usually drop. I saw usually as some of them are real tough SOB's and can seemingly shrug off a solid shot...

Not yet, still trying to fill our A31 Tags, plus the bear tag, been hell just trying to get the time to hunt this year, seems there is always something that has to come first. Hoping soon, but at the latest some where in January.

Pig calls you ask, hummm, my wife says that if I got paid for the information I gave out here, it would pay better than my job.

Okay, I've wrote about calling animals before. The thing here is DO NOT give them a reason to leave. If you use a pig in distress thinking that you'll get the pigs to come in to help defen the hurt pig, the odds are the pigs you want to move your way, will move away. Seriously, there needs to be a good reason an animal would come in to defen another. If your really close, but not close enough, the proxmity might be enough to bring them in. But survival says that they should escape the danger. I have used 2 calls without any adverse affects. I'd say both work well. One is a socila grunt call, the other is a content feeding call. Both seem to put the pigs at ease. As long as they don't smell you, it helps in covering for any noise you might make. I have had pigs deep in a canyon, while I ws on a ridge skylined, a couple of the pigs were looking at me, so I used the content feeding call and they went right back to feeding. I continued using the call while I got in position, with pigs looking up at me a few times. I was hunched over, so I didn't look like a bi-ped. That was last year, and I managed 2 really nice pigs Shown below for your viewing pleasure. But yes, I believe in calls, I just do not believe in the type of calls that might give an animal a reason to put distance between him/her and I.

And to top it off, they were both boars:

I need to go pig hunting again.

Nice. I was up in d10 this last weekend. Pig tracks and bear. Both in the snow. I will be heading up there with a buddy as soon as we can. Never done any snow hunts but the tracks are easy to see. Just need to find the game now.

OPAH,I haven't bow hunted in at least 2 decades, so it was "ruffle" for sure. Yep, just take some ruffles, blankets, and pillows, lay them out all nice like, and wait; oh yeah, don't forget the call:lol bashing sign:.

I just couldn't help myself. Hey, no invite for me; what's up with dat?
