FISHING FOR $50K: This past Saturday's "Fishing for 50K" event at Big Bear Lake didn't see any of the big money tagged trout caught by anglers, but the top prize of $1,000 for the biggest trout was awarded for a 6.2-pounder caught by Rod Batchelor of Upland. He caught the fish on Crave Bait, which according to marina managers and owners produced some of the most spectacular catches they've ever seen at the lake.
Crave Bait uses sexual hormones as part of its scent mixture to excite trout into eating, and it's been one of the most effective trout baits to come along since Power Bait hit the market. Each entrant in the event was given a jar of Crave to use. What they didn't know was that the Crave Bait they were using was actually the "new" Crave Bait that will officially be unveiled at next month's industry trade show in Las Vegas. Phil Mackey, who developed Crave Bait, said the new Crave Nitro, as it will be called, is the best bait he's ever tested in his elaborate testing facility, better than any other bait on the market by a wide margin, including original Crave. The stringers of trout from Big Bear this past weekend seemed to lend credence to that claim.
