SACRAMENTO VALLEY
FOLSOM LAKE — The 5 mph speed limit is in effect, but some boaters haven’t been complying. Bass fishermen are enjoying the relative peace and quiet – and good fishing. There was decent topwater action early in the
morning for larger fish. Later
on, darthead, drop-shot and Carolina-rig plastic worms in Aaron’s Magic, green pumpkin and Morning Dawn.
AMERICAN RIVER — Shad were skittering along the surface in late evenings in the upper river above Watt Avenue. Trollers struggled a bit more in the lower river, but tossing big streamers, Pencil Poppers and swimbaits just before dark enticed an
occasional strike.
FEATHER RIVER — It was an early morning bite, but there was some decent steelhead activity in the Low Flow Section. Small Baetis-imitating nymphs provided most of the action. A few striped bass were caught below Shanghai Bend, down to the Bear River, but throwing small Rapalas toward deadfalls provided better actionr.
SACRAMENTO RIVER,
Sacramento — A few striped
bass were caught from the
I Street Bridge to the Broderick boat ramp on swimbaits by
anglers throwing swimbaits from the Yolo side at night. Sloughs produced catfish on anchovies and chicken livers at night.
SACRAMENTO RIVER, Colusa—Anglers willing to sort through a bunch of shaker striped bass were catching limits of legal-sized fish on sardines around the State Park at Colusa.
SACRAMENTO RIVER, Red Bluff—Stable flows brought the bite back for native rainbows up to about 3 pounds. Crickets were the “killer” bait but fly fishermen were also doing well on small caddis-imitating nymphs.
