AMERICAN RIVER--They're here! Shad that is. Even though flows were still very high, it was possible to catch shad above Watt Ave. and Grist Mill by finding slow runs and drifting small curlytail jigs. Chartreuse heads with champagne tails were the winning combo. Near the mouth, the water surface level dropped several feet and anglers were catching small stripers on jumbo minnows and sardines.
