I found out today that our License Branch may have accidentily switched some information sent out to hunters on either the FHL Hunts and/or Independence hunt (not sure which exact ones and there may be several). If you get the wrong information I apologize, please contact me or the License Branch and they will send you new information. It is also posted on our web page under the elk program.

My number 916 445-9992
License and Revenue Number (916) 928-5805

I apologize for any inconvenience

Thanks for the consideration of posting the message, DFGELK. However, how would one know if the information he has received is wrong? I looked at the website, and I didn't notice anything odd.

Here's the link to the website: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/hunting/elk/

The information package received in the mail will have the inserts. You will know because the information sheet will say it goes to a different hunt. So if you were drawn for Independence but the sheet says Fort Hunter Liggett. They are titled correctly just some were apparently put in the wrong envelopes.

Different subject, but since 6x7 brought up his antelope hunt......I hunted period 2 Likely Tables in 09. Both my hunting partner and I took bucks, pulled the teeth and sent them in (as procedure from DFG). Neither of us ever heard back in regards to age of the animals we took or any other information that should have been provided. Did DFG stop the process of these teeth due to budget cuts? Do you have any insight into this? I had sent a letter back a few months ago to DFG Sacramento, but never heard anything back. Thanks for any light you can shed on the subject

I apologize if you did not get a response, your letter must have never reached me because I make a point of getting back to people. With your information package you received in 09 it should have stated that we no longer mail tooth age information back to hunters but it is posted on our web page. Look here http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/hunting/pronghorn/tooth/index.html it has info from 09. It takes quite a while to get the info back from the lab. We combine elk, antelope, and bear teeth together and send them in as one package. They do not even get sent out until March or April. We do not pay for priority with the lab in Montana so we usually get the results back that December. So for many hunts it is a year and a half after their hunt that we get the ages back. Some years it is a bit earlier and others it is a bit later. Hope that helps.

Thanks Joe, first I heard that you didn't mail the info back. Now I just gotta figure out what my licesnse # or tag # was. I believe that my pronghorn was pretty old, pic is my avatar. Anyway, thanks again and keep up the good work

Already checked that. This was the first mount I had this new guy do and he didn't staple the tag on the mount. I moved 6 months ago and have most of my stuff in storage so I don't have ready access to my hunting and office stuff so finding anything on the fly is tough. I just sent an email to my hunting partner asking if he had his license or tag number from 09, from his info I can figure out mine. In fact based on the date I took mine and the date he took his I think I may have figured it out. I know I took mine on opening day (the 5th), I believe that he took his on Monday the 7th, if so mine was the only pronghorn they were unable to tell the age on that was shot opening day. If I ever figure it out I'll post back. I am pretty sure that my goat had a few years on him.
