Yesterday while treking through the woods I found an entire skull of an 8pt.
It was very close to some coyote dens. The horns are chewed a bit on the tips, but all teeth are intact. Looks like it is well aged. I want to put a finish on it, I was thinking of using bleach to clean it well, then a polyureathane finish. Is this the proper way to preserve it to display? Also was thinking it may look nice to add a light stain to it~

What do ya think?

Check in the taxidermy forum. They can tell you how to clean it. I have seen people make a paste from coffee to wipe the antlers. This puts some color back in. Congratulations on your find.

Hideandwatch....Don't use Bleach!, bleach will make the skull continue to deteriorate. If you can go to a beauty supply store where they sell hair cutting supplies, get peroxide that they use when dying hair. 20% volume is the stuff I use, I get a gallon for about 5.00, I dilute it with some water, and the skull's come out looking clean and white. I don't use any type of spray, I go with the natural look. Check out taxidermy.net, you can search on this subject and get a wealth of information. If you want to, most taxidermy supply houses, VanDykes, WASCO, Noonkesters, etc. etc. sell kits to whiten skulls. Your skull will continually flake pieces of bone off when you use Bleach. Good luck!

Didn't want to start a new thread, and remembered seeing this one. Was out Saturday morning for about two hours. Saw a about a dozen baldies, but couldn't find any sheds. I did find a winterkill eight point though. Just one side was sticking up through the snow. Thought it was a shed at first, but it was a sturdy little 2 1/2 old eight point. No chews, hansome little rack. I was on my last picture, so only got the as it laid pic. I'll post the whole skull here when I get my next roll developed.
