Sheds are starting to drop in my area. I'm still getting pictures of bucks with antlers (as of 3 days ago) but some are shedding. Here is a pic of the one I found today.

BTW, can you see that gross green slime stuff around the antler base? I've never seen that before. Do you think it's infection? or what?

Usually that would only be on an old one laying in a wet spot. That shed is a dandy and looks fresh to me. Not sure what would cause it to get really green like that in one little spot unless there was some flesh left clinging there or something like that. That's a keeper.

Oh yeah, one more thing, the pedicle on that one is really extended (usually more rounded or convex) and is quite jagged (that must've hurt when he dislodged it).

man nice shed .it looks like he snapped it off rather than shed it ,the base looks like it's part of the skull.

Congrats on that first one for the year!! Looks like an infection, maybe that antler was injured and infected. Then with the weakened base the antler snapped off a little extra bone when shed?

I agree, something doesn't look right about that. There is way too much bone at the base of that antler. I wonder what his head looks like?

It is a nice shed though!
