If you want to pick up a free wild hog, I just passed one today on my way from San Jose to Fresno. It's located on Hwy 152 between Casa de Fruta and the split to Hollister and Gilroy. It's a road kill of a 150 lb + black pig with a little white on the throat. It's on the median strip close to the Westbound (north) lane going toward Los Banos. Gotta confess though, don't know how long it's been dead. I'm sure it was living on private property there.

I passed through there this evening; didn't notice it since I was paying more attention to the merging traffic from Hollister; however it may have been picked up too.

I did count 4 dead coyotes and 1 dead fawn on the stretch between Gilroy and the 33 junction. Never counted that many yotes before. Something's making all those mammals move...

I was thinking the likes county animal control may have picked up the hog, but you never know -- someone may have had a hunkering for pork jerky.

My girlfriend's mom lives in Gilroy and I go there often. Always see a few dead coyotes and skunks on hecker pass and pacheco pass. I've heard most of the farmers in the area won't give anyone permission to hunt varmint on their property. Anyone know if this is true?

Never tried getting permission to hunt this area. I did get persmission this year to PASS THROUGH a strectch of private road on a ranch near Dinosaur Point. I did mention varmint hunting and he said no.

Last Monday (9/9/02) morning (7:30 am), seen a very nice (about 250 lbs) boar on lower cottonwood. Did not see him any other day of week.

Subject: Beware: dead hog under wharf 2

I am aware that there are many things I have not seen
underwater but I never thought I would see an aquahog!
While diving along Wharf 2 my wife gestured toward
something she had discovered ahead. I looked down and
thought "Hey, a wolf eel". As I approached in the
limited visability I realized what I thought was an
eel was instead the gray snout of a large hairy wild
hog somebody had dumped off the wharf. The body had
not decomposed much so I assume it was new. There were
just a couple of starfish beginning to feed on it.
Other than that the dive was enjoyable. I found some
good macro subjects to photograph. Also we were
treated to some sea lion intimidation "fly-bys".
