Got some pics of boar my buddy shot at our lease last night.

PICS

We have just in the last couple of years started killiing hogs. So how big do ya'll think this boar is? My buddy in the pic is about 6 ft 4 . We estimated it at around 250 pounds. Are boars that big any good to eat? We have had people tell us that the big males aren't any good to eat.

That is a nice sized hog. As far as eating him I think by the picture he is still small enough to be good eating. It all depends on how you handle the meat after being cut up.

On another site that is just about hogs they are always talking about cutting the hog up and putting the meat in a cooler and covering with ice and then draining the water and putting more ice in. They do this for about 3-4 days or until the water is coming out clear. If you would like to look for better details on this go to http://www.texasboars.com/phpBB2/index.php and check out their message board.

Gus, You beat me to it. I was gonna direct him to the same site. My buddy killed a big old stinky boar last weekend. We used the tesaxboars.com soak method of ice water, vinegar and lemon juice. The meat looked and smelled fine after 2 days. My buddy ate the tenderloins and some chops last night and said they were fantastic.

Thanks guys. The 150lber has been soaked and cut up. I kept one hindquarter to bbq and chopped most of the rest of it up to make sausage. The 300lber has one more day to go soaking. I have to say when the meat came out of the cooler there was no smell and looked good. I hope to bbq the ribs or the ham sometime in the next couple of weeks.
