I use corn soaked in diesel for the bait, helps keep the coon and deer out of the trap. As far as how the trap works, I have a trip wire that runs across the back end of the trap that holds the door up, once a hog walks towards the corn and hits the wire the door shuts and latches. There might only be one hog in the trap or there could be several, the most I have ever caught in the same trap is 13.

13 at one wack!? Your lucky that your trap was still in one piece! Now that would have been a picture!
