Non-lead ammunition is required for hunting, (bullets, sabots, slugs, and shotshells).
All permit applications will be accepted by mail only. Applications will normally be processed within 14 working days from postmarked date.
Hunting opportunities for Saturday January 10th, Through Sunday January 11th, 2009 include: Wild Pig, Cottontail, Jack Rabbit, Bobcat, Coyote, Tree Squirrel, Quail, Duck, and Goose.
Training Areas open for hunting Saturday January 10th through Sunday January 11th are as follows:
1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 13E, 14, 17, 18, 19, 23, 25, 26, 28, and 29.
Training Areas 13E and 29 are park and walk and restricted to shotgun archery and muzzle-loading weapons only.
Tenative Training Areas open for hunting January 17-19 are: 1, 11, 13E, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 26, 28, and 29.
Due to Military training requirements or security reasons, training areas and reservoirs may be closed without notice.
Ponds available for fishing January 8th through January 14th, 2009, include: Coleman, Milpitas, General's, Twin Valley, Sycamore, Gravel Pit, and Del Venturi.
The check station will be open for pre-registration on Friday, January 9th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Check station hours for Saturday, January 10th through Sunday January 11th, are 5:00 am to 4:00 pm.

I know I haven't established myself quite yet on this forum but I should be there this weekend. It will be my first time there and would love to meet up with anyone going this weekend. Not sure what site we will be in but look for the Blue dodge ram with a fifth wheel. By the way just so you all know I am Chris.

Next weekend is a 3 day weekend. should be a good one.
On presidents day weekend I'll on the Big island hopefully hunting if not BBQing for sure. Hope to meet up with some JHO's there.

My friend was elk hunting last weekend in TA-22, and seen 40 pigs in 3 days. At present that area only opens for elk hunters, but Jim, one of the biologists, claims that they are trying to open it up to park and walk-in archery. That will be a great day for archers.

Yeah, there's a lot of area's they're trying to open up to the archery hunters. It'll be nice because it'll allow a lot more options.

If you see a large bull elk with a slight limp, that is Scott's arrow. The arrow snapped off, and the elk truned and ran. If TA-22 ever opens, it wont be a cake walk. It will be more like a cake craw (on your belly) 12" of grass all the way.

Got to check station this morning feeling good having the wife as a Co'driver/Guest. She made breakfast fome and some buddys tha was suppose to meet me there. But thats another story.

Anyways I check into TA9 and saw the place for the 1st time this year half burn but alot of new growth. We saw A nice herd of Elk and 1/2dz deer or so. Went back to check station and change into another area to check this bowl where another hunting buddy and I harvested 4 hogs one morning. The wife drop me of I side hill to this bowl and find no ones home. I find the Bottom jaw of a hog and now I'm hold my shooting sticks 270 and a jaw.
So I walk over another finger and see to black long object laying under 2 different trees and they looked like hogs so I move another 5 yards so where I dont have the chemis in my way and a small twig get caught and snaps up goes the hogs and down the hill. so for the next 1/2 hour or so I'm keep kicking myself how I blew it the stalk.

I walk to the bottom and called the wife on the radio to pick me up on the bottom so we can look for more sign further back in this area. She down and doing a real good job learning how to 4wheel around in some really bad rutted areas. We drive further back and decide to return to the area 1/2 hour later and have lunch a glass around.
I get out of the truck open the camper shell back window and lower the tail gate. The I walk to the side of this ridge to glass a little immediately I see a herd of pigs on the bottom and tell the wife pigs,pigs,pigs, and jump back in the truck hoping we can cross before they get in the thick bush. As we get down this ridge on the other side no where close where we suppose to be I see another black object just stepping out a tree line 150 yds away. I get out and setle the cross hairs and thats all she wrote.

We dressed it out and she goes now what how are we going get this 200 lb + on the truck. We drag it to a hill and I back the truck to the hill and roll it on the truck.
We get to the check station it weighed 187 & a little over an inch cutters. The best thing hardly any lice but he had 2inches of fat.

Thanks guys. Thank god for wives that hunt with their hubbies. Although she was just a guest but she was so much more confident climbing the hills of FHL today. A big help when a hog this size need loading. Next weekend will be another story. My neighbors are loving us gave them the front shoulders.

Congratulations on a successful family hunt. I forgot about the guest permits at FHL. Thanks for reminding me, Seniors are no longer given free permits, and my son's college tuition & books are keeping me broke. He doesn't have any money either. The State Universities are now $2050 twice a year, plus $700 for books twice a year. If my son and I work as a team with one as a guest, maybe we can start hunting at Liggett again.
