I'll do a write up in a bit. Still cleaning and stowing gear, re-sharpening my knives, and making the truck clean enough for the wife and kid. Thumbnail info is that I took him in Area 2 at about 7:30am..... I drove in and scouted a bit at about 6am, and was only hiking "boots on the ground" for about 30-40 minutes before I spotted him and stalked close enough to make the kill.

Here he is, freshly dead:

Hanging on the hook, ready to get processed:

I saw a ton of tracks - pigs, deer, and something that looked like a cat's paw only a lot bigger. :wow-eyes: That made me pause and think a bit.......

It baffles me why people put the exact TA that they get a kill or see lots of signs in on the internet.... you are aware that the TA will be scoured now and picked clean by every lurking member on here right?

Way to really add something to the thread smh.

Nice uncle! We're you hiking the canyons in the back or the hills?

I've seen lots of signs in every TA I've hunted at FHL. Pigs are all over the place out there. Take a walk in 7 or 10 - it's like the Ho Chi Minh trail over in those areas. 27, 28, and 29, too.

TA 2 is huge, and mostly rocky steep canyons. Good luck scouring it. :)

Also - pigs are very transient. In one TA one day, in another tomorrow. I've been told the TA 2 has a very low success rate. I got lucky.

I've never hunted TA 2, and didn't expect much more than a recon expedition. To me that means go up high and look around, so that's what I did. I picked a random hill, went to the top, and glassed. Saw the pig about 1/2 mile away, and went down and got him.

UB is right Ive hunted pigs in the same area 4 days in a row and they are there one day and never to be seen again that week. They move and move fast dont think they are habitual creatures they move where ever there is food.

I just love these type of helpful post that completely disregard one's right's to share whatever they wish, one's right to free speech, and all those that fought and sacrificed so that we all have these rights. Despite me disagreeing with what daveyboy has to say, I'll fully support his right to say it. I however clearly do not agree with the way he goes about saying it; as if we all should fall in line with his way of thinking. No sir, I'm not one to fall into your line of thinking; hell, next your likely going to want to pick my friends too. Nope, no thank you. God endowed me with a mind of my own; and I for one am more than capable of making my own decisions with or without your input.

..... and when it's hot out, water and cover.

Daveyboy, you were looking for a pig hunting mentor in this thread. First thing you need to know is that pigs don't hang out anywhere in particular - they wander around randomly, and if you happen to intercept one on its way you get a chance for pork. There are things you can do to maximize your chances of that intersection happening, but the primary fact is that they are wanderers and are habitually habit-free. :)

COngrats John, that's a nice pig. Getting up high and glassing is the ticket like you said. I didn't make it up, SHOT show wore my azz out.

To uncle: I will say congrats on the kill, looks like a nice pig. To justify what I was saying, I have talked to people after seeing a TA posted on here and they were planning on hitting the TA after reading about it. Word of success travels quickly. Like you said, pigs are nomadic. If the word of their location is blasted on the internet, there will be more pressure, and that surely will make them nomadic. But I do appreciate your tips despite how my first post came off.

As to bubble: You can try to relate what I said to me oppressing the 1st amendment if you like... Or you can try to explain to me about fighting for and sacrificing for the nation.I can tell you that I never told him to do anything, I never took any of his rights away, and I have fought and sacrificed for the country. Put grid coords to your kill if you want, who cares.

Thanks.

To be honest, after talking with you I almost switched out of 1 and 2 but then decided to give it a look just to learn the layout. I most certainly just got lucky, but I'm glad I didn't change. Gunfighter77 was there at FHL too, and he said they were in TA 9 and it was pretty busy over there, lots of hunters.

I don't think the first pic does this pig justice - the pic makes him look small, but he was pretty big. I got a ton of meat off him.

Take a look at the size of this ham..... and I have two of them!
