yes I do have guns but that would mean they would have a registry of the guns I have. I would rather them not know what I have. Bow I dont mind so much but with all the politics that are going around I see this as a way of them finding out what I have.

If you buy ammo or guns with a credit card they know exactly what you have.

I'm surprised they didn't do this in the first place. I hunted Pinon Canyon Army Maneuver Site, CO for elk and we had to register there too. That's the fun of hunting on a military base. They get to make whatever rules they want.

They do the same at VAFB, but if you know their system you wouldn't be too worried about it. It's hand-written, hand filed in an ancient filing cabinet and is not referenced or coded into any databases. Come on, guys; this is the military!

Yeah every other base i have been to before fhl required weapons to be registered with the provost marshals office. I don't think this is anything new with the climate, more so just the military exercising its "control". I was very surprised to see how laxed the entire fhl process including main gate was. Expect to see that get more tangled in red tape.

My question is why is the post closed to hunting?

Major training. We've activated a mobile field exchange; something like 2,500 troops on the base.

The regulation says:

"Registration form must be hand carried to the registration office during the hours of operation(Without Weapon).."

and

"...everyone who carries / transports ANY weapon onto Fort Hunter Liggett Ca will be required to register the weapon with the FHL Directorate of Emergency Services BEFORE entry onto the installation"

So here's my question..... If I cannot enter the base with my weapons prior to registration, and I must carry the form by hand to the registration office - how does that work, exactly? If I go there, I'm going to hunt.... so I'll have my rifle in the truck. But since I can't mail in the registration, and cannot enter the base to hand carry the form, I'm kind of stuck.

Or am I missing something?

Something tells me you never served in the Military? Haha. That's exactly what that means... Such a hassle, but like I said. I am surprised it took them this long. All over bases I've had to deal with operate this way.

And the office is closed on Saturday, and Sunday. So that means anyone coming in late Friday night can't make it.

So the question remains - how does one comply with the directive? Do I have to take the 3 hr drive each way in the middle of the week just to droip off the paperwork?

There's a number to call for questions - I'll drop the dime tomorrow and see what I can find out.

On all the bases and forts I've been on you just drive in and give the PM the paperwork even with the guns in the vehicle. On many installations if you are stationed there you have to keep the guns in the PM armory and check them out.

I'd call to make sure first though, FHL seems to be playing catch up with all their new rules and regs. If they want the form without any guns in the car that's going to waste a lot of time and gas just to make a drive to drop off the form.

another way around is the two trucks approch.
all weapons in one truck, one guy sits outside the gate. everyone else goes in, on friday to reg guns and pre reg hunt.
they come out. the one guy goes in and repeat.
the three guns i would take up there are already registered with the state
so i dont really care about that. I hope it's a one time deal that you dont have to register every time you go.
anyway I like that place to much to give up on it over this.

I received an email from FHL with all the info needed to handle this.
kind of a pain in the ass but they make the rules.
If you have been to FLH in the past you should be getting the same email.
Its a early friday trip for sure.
