Years ago a group of about 6 of us use to take the first week of deer season and all go together. One year a coworker of one of my buddies asked if he and his brother could come along. Opening day they didn't get up because they were hung over until the rest of us started coming back for lunch. When they finaly came out of there camper both had binoculars around there necks that looked like they belonged on the deck of an aircraft carrier, one had a monocular on his wrist, pistols on there hips, and rifles. One was wearing slip on loafers and the other was bragging on his naugahide hunting boots he bought the day before.
Scared the heck out of us all. Nobody would hunt the same canyon they were in. The only time we did was when we droped them off on top of a mountain for a drive and went and waited on the otherside of the canyon. Halfway down the guy with the boots triped on a stob, did three or four summersalts and tore the toe out of his brand new naugahide boots. That afternoon we told them they needed to go.
It was an expensive weekend for them. They tore up a brand new pair of delux hunting boots, droped and broke a pair of binoculars, lost the monocular, and even lost a nine millimeter pistol out of it's holster. We spent a lot of time looking for that pistol. We felt sorry for them but sure have gotten a few laughs sitting around the campfire thinking about them since.

F350,
As far as I know that pistol is still somewhere on Greenhorn mountain. When I was at the Kernvile Museum last month a man showed me an old black powder pistol that had been found up there not too long ago from the 1800's. I figure figure the mountain was just trading off for something newer.

Three of us were hunting down this canyon during the G1-zone in Tehama Wildlife Area. My dad and a friend named Mike worked one hillside of the canyon while I worked the opposite hillside. Both hillsides and the canyon didn't have much cover at all so the hunt was supposed to be a quick drive. From my side of the canyon I can see dad and Mike walking along the open hillside. They took a rest and had a snack. After the snack, Mike turned away in one direction to take a leak while dad decided to continued down along the hillside. Dad took a couple of steps and a nice 4x4 buck jumped from behind a big rock about 10 feet infront of him. He took an off-handed shot and missed. Mike was only a couple steps away still holding his instrument. Dad yelled SHOOT! Mike grabbed his rifle and took a shot while liquid was still pouring out of his instrument. Both shots missed the buck and we never saw it again. We now referred to that canyon as Piss Lost Buck Canyon.
