That pig is bulging at the seam, I am thinking over 300, most likely 350 or so, but a good livestock scale would tell for sure, so either catch him and weigh him on the hoof, or ventilate him and take the pounds you gain from all that sausage, and multiply by 10.3389887464647
He's on public land here in Arkansas. I won't be able to hunt him until the first of October. Either with a bow(deer season) or with a 22 magnum for squirrel season. He's about 50 yds from where I hang my deer stand, so maybe I'll get lucky.
Careful on the .22 mag, it might just piss it off, or it might die a long ways
from you. It could also survive and just live with the slug inside of it
Coondog,
You are right on!! My buddy shot a 350 lb. hog & when we skinned it, there was an old .22 LR bullet lodged under the skin, between the bridge of the nose & the skin. There was no dent or penetration on the bone. The bullet was laying flat under the skin. Must have been from a short barreled .22 revover.
larrysogla.
ya the .22 mag won't be enough, I killed one hog a while back with four .22's in it. Two in the ham and two in the rib cage. I didn't keep it since the hog had gotten a nasty infection and smelled really bad. So try to go out with a bigger caliber.
most likely the reason it was a .22 mag is they can only be hunted with the weapon of the current season, so during small game season you can not use a big game caliber.
and many hogs have died from a .22 mag, but shooting anything in the ham, or shooting a .22 in the ribs is a no no, ear shot at close range
The only way I can use a bigger caliber weapon is during muzzleloader season or if I get drawn for a 2 day modern gun hunt. The problem with that is I killed a 169 6/8 whitetail the first year I ever hunted the spot, and this past Saturday when I went to pick up my game camera there was an ~22 inch spread 10 pt whitetail coming off the trail that leads to my stand. If I saw him during deer season I might take him if it was slow, but there are too many big deer in those woods for me to screw up a hunt.
I helped hang a hog at FHL a year back and he was about the same size. I guessed this hog at 300 lbs and he was 299 lbs on the hoof on the scale. The rafter beams were a groaning too when we hoisted him up.
