I am looking to purchase a few game cams. Have never owned one. Was browsing Bass Pro looking at the less expensive ones, say under $100.00, and it seemed the customer reviews on all of them were very spotty. Some people very happy but many people just the opposite. Any personal recommendations? Or is it a case of just have to spend more money?

look in the deer mule deer forum...someone asked the same question...but i have a couple of cheapo cameras from bass pro and they work fine..think they were two for 79 bucks...a little big and heavy to hike in with but for the price the work well...the guys that have the pricey cams will tell you to spend the $$$ and the guys with the cheap ones will say different...good luck

Spend a few more bucks and you'll be happier in the long term. The cheap ones often go thru batteries like crazy - a pain and expensive. For about $120 you can get a Bushnell Trophy Cam that works great, fits in your pocket, and lasts a year on a set of batteries. They're all I run now.

Check the range of the flash for night shots. 60' is nice, but I didn't see any on display at Bass Pro. They were all 30'

There's a serious trade-off going cheap. They die quicker, cost more in the long run but it hurts less when they are stolen. Some of the pricier cameras do not require card retrieval, you can access pics online which is cool but ya gotta hide the damn thing cuz they will disappear. Another advantage is that IF you are trekking deep off the road, ya aren't putting scent in the area you are monitoring. That absence can be a big plus.

Did anyone come out with a cell phone trail cam?

I am a ham radio operator and can set up a remote station, but an old cell phone is the way to go.

I have a bushnell 8.0 bone collector, don't think the camo was worth the extra $20. I spent too much I am sure but get great pics. For the $220 I spent I'm sure you could get two cams that work great. Read the reviews. I like being able to pull up and swap out SD cards, and I like tie ir night cam, clear pics to 20ft. No matter what you get put good batteries in it, lithiums. Will pay for themselves

By game cam do you mean trail cam? The kind you leave on a tree branch and come back for in a week? I like the idea of those, especially one that works well after dark.
