I just saw the FHL newsletter which talks about the lead ban. Now, I don't have a problem getting the lead out, but I'm getting worried that I won't be able to get ammo for certain guns. Of the guns we use, so far I can find 30-30 Winchester and 7x57 Mauser, but nothing for my kids 7.62x54R, and no 12ga or 20ga rifled slug.
Anyone else know where to find these?

These are all sabot loads. Rifled barrel required. They do meet the non-tox requirement.

Blastmaster, I didn't get the FHL notice, but are you sure that slugs are included in the initial ban?

Sabots can be had in lead-free for the shotgun. I also thought I saw Remington or somebody putting out another lead-free slug, but can't find the info now.

The 7.62x54 will have to be handloaded for now. Odds are that one will not be available for a while.

Sorry to say:

FHL April Newsletter

"...We strive to reduce wildlife exposure to spent lead ammunition
from hunting at FHL. For now, we ask that you use nonlead
ammunition for hunting at FHL. Beginning July 1, 2007,
FHL will require that hunters use non-lead bullet ammunition
(bullets, single balls, slugs and pellets). This will affect
mammal hunting on FHL, which includes pig, deer, elk, coyote,
bobcat, jackrabbit, cottontail, and tree squirrel. July 1, 2008,
FHL will extend this requirement to non-lead shot. This will
affect bird and mammal hunting for dove, quail, band-tailed pigeon,
turkey, jackrabbit, cottontail, and tree squirrel..."

Memorial day weekend will be only our second trip there, but I really want to make it a habit. We had been going to CR for years, but they are following suit, I imagine. Anyway, eventually it will all go this way. So please keep your eyes open for lead free 7.62x54R and rifled slugs.
Thanks

That link has TSX in 308. Isn't the 7.62x54 just the NATO's notation for a 308?

I bought some non-toxic 12ga slugs at midwayusa. They ran about $12 per 5.

Yeah and who's working on Rimfire lead free? How is effecting barrel life and ammo cost?
