confronting people...let them know you hunt in one way or another (simple decals, hats, shirts) sometimes it strkes conversation...my best have been more formal type events and just mentioning i hunt and talking to people....door to door can work, but be prepared for some potential harrasment....just my 2cents

Talk to a local game warden, often they will tell you which land owner might be willing to listen to you.

I usually find some way to help around the property if possible. You may see some ranch owner fixing fences, clearing land, painting, what ever, but doing something. While assisting, the conversation can be turned into a hunting opportunity. Be friendly and remember your "thanks anyhow" if turned down as ranchers talk. If they say yes, often they will alos turn you on to other ranchers needing work and thus, another door opens. Good luck..

In my experience, you "Give something, to Get something". Someone already mentioned talk to the local game warden and ask him/her where to start. Fill up the truck with gas, invest a full day to knockin on ranchers doors is one of the best ways to possibily get the access you are looking for. I got lucky by finding a rancher who needed some major renovating to the "Bunkhouse" that was on the ranch. I spent many weekends coming up and doing repairs and replacing stuff in the bunkhouse and also heading to the local thirft shops, discount furniture shops , etc and bringing the stuff up with me and making the bunkhouse a little nicer for the guest they would have throughout the year. In my case, I would wake up early in the morning and do a morning hunt. I would be back by at least 10am and bust my butt on the property. I would then head out for a evening hunt and hunt till last light. The gap in the middle of the day (6 Hours) really gave me the opportunity to get the work done. Gettin out and knockin on doors cant hurt ya, it may just lead to your little "Huntin Honey Hole"....
