Getting rid of the hog hunting jones

Man, I can't remember how long it really was since I went hunting for myself (not guiding), but it seemed like forever. I was getting a hog jones in a big way, especially after reading everyone else's adventures and knowing that the Tejon hunt was this weekend.

Broke away and ran up to Sonoma County, the Hedgepeth Ranch (Golden Ram property).

Anyway, the weather was wet so I ddn't do any video and photos are limited so I didn't take any pix to drag this out... so...

And yeah, definitely kept up the tradition of shooting 'em in hellholes... this one was 2 miles and two canyons away from the truck.

Savage 110 - 30-06, shooting 180gr Winchester/Nosler ETips. Shot placement- behind the ear at 40 yards... bang-flop!

Nice pig. Whereabouts is the Hedgepath Ranch? I've hunted a WU property outside of Cloverdale and a sheep ranch up H128 just before Yorkville. That's where I shot my last pig. Luckily he died within sight of a jeep road, but I had hiked a bit to get to him.

SD, the bow got parked for this one because given the way things have been lately and where my level of patience is right now... well, if I saw it, I wanted to know I could kill it. The Savage is a lot more reliable for that than the Mathews. Of course, it never fails, leave the bow home and have pigs at 40 yards. And actually, if I hadn't taken the shot when I did, the herd would have probably passed about 25 yards... but 40 was close enough for my purposes.

TRey, Hedgepeth is up Skaggs Springs Rd, about 19 or 20 miles past Lake Sonoma. It's a good ranch for pigs, but they keep a quota on how many can be taken in a season. I was just lucky they haven't filled the quota yet.

No more pics. It was raining and hailing pretty good, so I only carried my little Olympus pocket camera. The good cameras stayed in the truck.

By the way, there was at least one much bigger hog in the group (I'd guess over 200lbs), but I intentionally targeted this little guy. Hunting by myself and down in that hellhole, I just didn't want to deal with packing out a monster. The little ones eat best anyway.
