Going to the Big Island!!!

Piggies here I come!!! Just made my plane reservations for june 1st, going to Oahu for a couple days to see family, then on to maui to see some more family and then onto the big island to stay with my cousin for a couple of weeks. Dang pigs walk through his yard, feral goats up on the hills above his house, a river 5 min. away filled with freshwater prawns just asking to be speared and on and on and on...

I'm about two seconds from putting my Bay Area house on the market and heading for the islands!

That's about what I paid. $444 after taxes and everything from ontario to honolulu. Dang I CAN'T wait!!!!

Travel hell... I'm thinking about migrating for good!

Pigs and turkeys in the yard.
Goats in the hills.
Beautiful beaches.

I've actually got some cash saved up to buy some property somewhere for when I'm ready to retire. I've been thinking Idaho/Montana or somewhere like that but seeing as how I'm a quarter hawaiian and I have family all over the islands I just may buy an acre or two back in the hills by my cousin around hilo. We shall see. Last year my cousin caught a 180 lb ahi (yellowfin) about 20 minutes out of hilo and he's caught ulua (trevally) up to 85 lbs from SHORE!!! Did you know about the kick ass large mouth bass fishing in the ranch and farm aqueducts?

This is gonna be a cheap trip to. I get to sleep on his couch, drive his spare truck and eat hawaiian food and I might spend $1000 in 3 weeks of being there.

Stryder...might wanna double check on freshwater fishing on the Big Island...Im pretty sure there is no freshwater fish besides a few kinds of catfish? My friend from BI is a big fisherman and says the same...I dont know, we could be wrong. Private landholders may have flown in largemouth to stock their ponds

Don't forget the 3 types of sheep available (Mouflon, MaunaKea, and Hybrid of the 2) year round no limit on public lands. Great public land hunting for pigs too. Have fun, and if your going to buy land there do it quick as land prices are climbing pretty fast.
Fishing off the mile long breakwater is excellent just casting (whipping) lures with a quick pumping action retreive, Omilu, Uku, Wahanui, Pa'opa'o, Kaku, Kawele'a, 'Awa'awa, Kawakawa, you name it, all kinds of gamefish galore! Try floating live Opae shrimp or A'ama crab at the mouth of streams for excellent O'io (bonefish) action.
