Okay, I am looking for a partner who is serious about getting a pig
on public land, and I know there are some of you out there.

I found a spot while turkey hunting this year that has pigs.
It is in the central coast area on public land, but is not an area I have specifically heard mentioned as a pig spot on this board.

This spot gets little to no hunting pressure (from what I could see) and is roughly 2 miles cross country from the nearest road. It will be a real pain to haul a pig out from. If I have to, I will try it alone, but I would much rather head out with a partner or two. Unfortunately none of my close friends hunt, so I thought there may be some folks here on JHP who would be interested. As a noted it is a good hike off the trail, some of which is bushwacking, so be prepared for a fairly tough hunt.

I'm not just looking for someone to drag a pig for me, I would be more than happy If someone else gets the shot and I end up just being there getting to be a part of it and help drag. I have been hunting my whole life, but never before for hogs, and I would really like to try for one. I would really like to hook up with someone with some exprience with pigs if possible. Since I know little of pig habits and meat prep, other than from reading.

In any case I would like to try to go out this weekend (June 14-15, I know short notice) or possibly next (June 21-22). If anyone is interested, PM or email me, or just post here. I can't gurantee we'll see a pig, but I can gurantee we will see game (quail, deer, turkey) and its a nice spot that held pigs in the recent past.

BTW,
I live in Hermosa Beach (near LAX) so someone from the LA area could carpool with me. Or if someone from the north wanted to join me, I could just meet you at "the spot"

Poor Aim,

I would be glad to go with you, but I will be out of town until about July 20th. If you want to go back out then let me know. I live in LA, so carpooling would be no problem.

Hey Pooraim,

I'm planning on heading out the weekend of the 21st to go hog hunting out of Coalinga. So that you don't have to give out your secret spot, how far of a drive is it from Stockton. If you don't know where that is, it's about 45 minutes south of Sacramento. If it's not too far (within 3 hours) I may be in for it the weekend of the june 21st. There may be a possibility I may have to work that weekend, I won't know until early next week. Let me know the driving distance and I'll let you know if I can make it.

Thanks, Mel

Hey Mel,

Looking quickly at the map my spot would probably be right at the upper end of your limit of 3 hrs, maybe slightly more.

Also, some other things on my end are coming up that may prevent me from getting out next weekend too.

I'll let you know.

I'm still trying to arrange a trip with some guys who contacted me via emial for this weekend. If I hear back from the other guys and we actually get out there, I will post a trip report.

I just read your e-mail and missed the weekrnd you mentioned going out. Unfortunately, I work weekends and have to schedule the odd weekday to try anything. I went a few weeks back with a buddy who has an in at a private ranch in the Panoche Valley. We found numerous tracks and some serious roto-tilling, but no pigs. I am going out again on Wednesday, July 2nd and coming back the next morning. My buddy is in Alaska fishing, so I am limited to any public lands. I am from Santa Cruz and need to keep the driving down to around two hours. I am undecided between Laguna Mountain, San Ardo, or Griswold Hills. I also heard somewhere that there is a spot of BLM land south of Carmel Valley on the way to Tassajara Hot Springs that usually has hogs, but I am unsure of the exact spot. Well, I hope you had a good hunt and maybe we can meet up in the future sometime. RTBX15
