I may have had an opportunity just fall in my lap
<
. A very good friend of mine is a CHP officer in the Dublin area, apparently he pulled this older gentelman over about a month ago for speeding and ended up giving him a warning. Well, just after my buddy pulled away, he pulled into this turn out down the road, and noticed this guy pulled in behind him. The guy came up to my buddies patrol car and asked "Hey, do you hunt". My buddy doesn't hunt, but he knows I do, so he says "Yeah, I hunt" This guy goes on to tell him he has 2,000 acres up above Milpitas off of Calaveras Rd. and the hogs are tearing his place up. He runs cattle up there and is afraid of them doing so much damage to the ground, the cattle my break a leg or something. He want's these hogs out!! I told my buddy to call this guy and tell him we can take care of it. I hopefully will know something this weekend. Man, I hope something lucky happens to me this year

My golden opportunity came this weekend... I was invited by a fellow JHO'er to go hunt pigs and turkeys on a ranch on Mt. Hamilton outside of San Jose, all weekend, for free (friend of a friend thing). Unfortunately, I am the ringleader of a big group heading to Mendocino this weekend for abalone diving, so there's no way I can get out of that.

I'm really, REALLY bummed I can't make the hunt this weekend. But on the other hand I'm really appreciative to have been invited in the first place. JHO is an awsome resource, not just for hunting opportunities, but for friends.

Hope you get that access Mel!

Congradulations to you Mel,

Im a firefighter in Santa Clara County and had the opportunity to hunt a ranch behind Mt. Hamilton. A good friend met a gentleman with a 12,000 acre ranch and he invited my buddy and guest (me). We got our pigs and got the chance to enjoy this beautiful property. We saw a large herd of Tule Elk, some nice bucks, turkey, two antelope, and not to mention about 25 pigs. I have met a rancher up Quimby road that said there are many pigs on his property as well. Good luck in getting a chance to hunt that property. It's not often something just falls your way like that. If for any reason you need a another gun to help rid that property of those pesty pigs, email me and I will be there, lol. Good luck.

That is awesome! Since I moved down to Morgan Hill last year I've been asking everyone and there brother about connections to land in the general area that I can get access to. So far nothing, but these stories just keep my going!

Congratulations, Mel! Please give us a full report! And take lots of pictures!

I drive Calavaras Rd. from Milpitas and Sunol from time to time when I want a scenic alternative to 680. I have seen boar along the road near Calavaras Reservoir over the past couple of years. They are usually out at dusk. I posted here a while back about it.

The link shows a map and some pics.

I have researched hunting in the Sunol area - I have never found a ranch where they'd let you buy access. I think the closest I have found is that ranch you have hunted over on Mines Rd. outside of Livermore.
