Has anyone hunted the Golden Ram properties for Pigs?

I was talking to them at the Sacramento Sportsman Expo. The club sounds good......but, you always get the salesman pitch.

I would like to hear from anyone that has actually hunted their leases (it looks like they have 2 or 3 ranches) for pigs.

I had the opportunity to hunt one of their properties down near Parkfield. Lovely habitat, a fair amount of tracks, but no pigs. I talked to the property patrolman, and he said they've been few and far between since they started pig hunting the ranch in November. Hopefully the nearby barley will bring them in when it comes up.

I believe the property up north is doing a little better, but I haven't been there yet. BigDog is a member and took one last year, but I believe he's out of town right now. He could probably answer better than I can.

I was a Ram Member, most of the properties seem over hunted and to presured. Some are very beutiful and almost worth the trip just to be there on a foggy quiet morning. My expeirence was if you get out of your truck and hunt hard, your chances are greatly improved. If your already a member do it. If not, real hunters can find game on public land.

Rifleman,

I believe it's no dogs in general. I'm sure it's no dogs at the Parkfield property where I hunted. I've only hunted the place once as a guest of a "corporate member", so I'm no expert. I did talk for quite a while with the patrolman, and one of the things I asked about was using dogs.

I DID hear dogs running on a nearby ridge, so some of the neighbors are using them. That thick stuff on the ridgetops seems like a perfect setup for a dog hunt.

Speckmisser,

Thanks for the info. I figured that dogs wouldn't be allowed but I thought I would ask anyway.

Oh, so you heard dogs opening down that way, huh; I guess there are a few people down there who enjoy listening to a good race after all. Most of the guys I have talked to or known of down that way loathe a dog that barks while running the hog. They say that they hog gets away more often. I've always thought that they need to re-evaluate the SKILLS of the dogs, not the presence of absence of the SOUNDS of the dogs.

Yeah, dogs are the only way to go when hunting the country with wall-to-wall brush.
