Hey ya'll, I'm 15 and I just got my first pig tag ever. I'm looking for any place, public or private, where I can go and hunt for a pig with my father. Please let me know of you have any good public land suggestions or if you own a ranch you'd let my father and I hunt on at least this once. Thanks

Hey Troutslayer,

I'm not sure what your experience level is on pig hunting but if this is your first time hunting in general, I would suggest looking for a guided hunt on private property to give yourself a bit more experience and understanding of what to do and look for so that you can be more successful on your own at private or public property hunts in the future.

Good advice. I would get a guide, but my family is wee but low on cash. I've done several turkey hunts and some duck hunting. I can navigate fairly well. Right now all I need is a place.

Trout,
Just think of it as an investment, consider a weekend hunt will cost you gas, ice and even more valuable time; now multiply that by 10 or 12 times and figure out what that will cost you. Consider saving up for a private ranch. If you're not willing do that. Right now it's been really dry, most hogs are going to be tethered to a water source. Go out after a good rain and look for sign. Once you find that plan on spending a lot of time scouting. Most pigs are found on private land or bordering it. You'll find just as much useful info on the CA DFG or now the DFW website as you will from guys on this site. Anyone who's actually gotten pigs on public land aren't going to give you the coordinates. Good luck either way.
