I had not shot 300 yrds in over 22 years. The last time I was in the Army back in 87. We shot the M16 from 25 to 300 meters. I wanted to test my skills and see how my rifle shoots at that range. So I joined a gun club that has a 300 yrd range. Checked my zero at 200 yrds ,it was dead on.Got off the bench and shot prone, just with sling no rest.I kept my shots inside a 7 inch bull. Moved back to 300 yrds shot 3 off the bench to see what the drop was. It was 12 inches low. That put my aiming point were the reticle starts to get fat. Got off the bench and shot prone with a front sand bag rest.Kept all my shots in a 8 inch bull. Not bad, kills deer.
I was shooting a 30-06 REM 700 ADL with 22 inch barrel and 3X9X40 Leupold VX II scope.Ammo was 165 gr Fed fusion. Ballistics chart says drop at 300 yrds is 8.7 inches when sighted in at 200 yrds. But that is with a 24 inch barrel. Good thing I tested it , now I know forsure what it does. My brother had 11.5 inch drop shooting 150 gr Hornady BTSP hand loads. He was also shooting a rem 30-06 with 22 inch barrel.

Good day Bad day at the range

Hay Catchdog i went to the range yesterday to sight in the Savage 300 and the rem 7MM mag, Well i started off with the 300 first dialed it in at 100yrds no problem. Then it was time for the 7MM the range master looking through my spotting scope says on the second shot 2 clicks up and 2 clicks right, ok i do the clicks and and chamber a round, I put the round in the chamber by hand not in the magazine i then close the action but the bolt will not close i then open the action again and close it i am standing doing this as the bolt closes iam thinking oh my god the gun just exploded :skeered: i look to my right and the look on the 2 guys faces i thought what the hell just happened, The range master says that happens some times  he tried to explain what happened :confused-yellow: Never Never Never again will i load one in the chamber by hand, I did not understand what the hell he told me, Do you have any input as to why that happened. Regards Craig

That has NOTHING to do with loading one by dropping it into the breech. If that was an unsafe practice, the benchrest guys would have stopped doing it years ago. Obviously the striker dropped on the primer--you sure you didn't touch the trigger while closing the bolt? If you didn't, SEND THE GUN BACK TO THE FACTORY NOW!

I go along with 410 on this. I load bullets like that all the time, never had that happen.
