Hi. Can anyone recommend a good elk butcher near LA? I go on my first ever elk hunt next week in Colorado. Good luck everyone on their hunt.

Green Acres in Simi valley is IMHO the best processor in LA or Ventura counties. Good luck on your hunt!

Meat Lockers in CO run 24/7 during hunting season. Usually have game processed in 24 hrs. Read reg's for California about bringing elk/deer into CA. You cant have any part of brain, or spine..Last year we got checked coming home from Utah.

I second k_rad's choice for local. Had a great experience with my elk last year at Green Acres.

Kent at Old Fashion Country Butcher is a good one. He wont do too many elk anymore. You could always ask though.

Thanks for the replies and great info. My SUV blew a head gasket so I will be driving my Acura Sedan instead which means I won't have wont have enough space for coolers to bring it back for processing. If I get one I will have to have it processed in Colorado.

Question: do I need the Permission for Entry with Game taken form if the meat is fully processed and vacuum sealed?

Thanks for your help. I leave tomorrow and will post a report when I get back.

I took my bear to Harmony Farms and felt they did a pretty good job. Sausage turned out great and they vacuum sealed the cuts I requested.

My buddy an I made a weekend road trip to New Mexico one time to pick up a few freezers of elk meat because I elected to have it processed there. When I found out how much it was going to cost to ship it, we drove.

I've used Bree's Meats on Valley View in Garden Grove before for elk and pigs.
