I'm going out this Fri. to the Wilson Unit to setup camp and do a little area scanning, I call it, before opening day here in Oregon. Most likely I'll be in the Roundtop area if anyone is coming that way. I've decided and made up my mind to not buy an elk tag this year. I've got 3 elk archery noobies that I'm trying to help them get there first archery kill. I've found a few herd of elk for them and they are excited as much as I am right now.

My itchy fingers went away and hope them 3 noobies can find a cure for theirs as opening morning comes. Please wish them luck and I hope my throat don't dry up trying to call for all 3 of them.

Also good luck to everyone else on their elk hunt trips this year. And also the the ones coming to OR, have fun and enjoy the smell of Rosies.

Thanx guys. These noobies don't care much bout trophy at this moment. They just want to get a first bow kill, so they all have both deer and elk tags which opens same day. Plus where we hunt you can shoot either sex on both species. I just hope they all get a chance to let it fly. Most definately if we succeed, I will post pics and same to all. I'm bringin along my little video cam as well to try and capture the first moments.

JNDeer and EasyMoney, we just had some rain yesterday but this whole week is goin to be in the low 90's to mid 80's so bring some light clothing as well as rain gear, you'll never know. Plus mornings are chilly here always.

Hunterdoug, your leg work will prepare you for our jungle and crossing over down logs the size of buses. Good luck with your new blackie spot.

Jake, make it happen.

Betelgeuse, gota love those either sex tags.

Have fun guys and best of luck to ya.

Nice. We're predicting possible showers tommorrow morn and sunny again the next few days. That should be awesome if that prediction is true. I always love rain before opening day. Remember, its chilly in the morning.

Thanx Jesse and Hank. Hank I know you'll find those elk on your scouting trip. NM is where one day I'll be there stompn around.

JnDeer, I can't take it anymore either just that I'm only 45 mins from where we're hunting.

Hunterdoug, dude that's the way to do it. I'm serious, you guys are just makin it too hard for me to wait one more day plus I've gotta work tonite.

orelkbow,
I leave on the 11th and hopefully they are bugling when we get there.
Last time they were already with cows and totally silent, plus the temps were in the 80's. It's supposed to start dropping down into the 70's with a shower or two...

I am in full swing with hunting, just im not doing any. we where successful in getting my uncle a nice pronghorn in north eastern CA last week, i will post pictures as soon as my uncle sents them to me. stay tuned for a story in the pronghorn section. its looking like i am going to get to go back home and chase around the black tails on closing weekend. my archery season took a beating do to scouting goats for my uncle and shooting my blackpowder gun in preperation for my November mulie hunt. it will nice to get out and fling some sticks.

where you able to get any of the newbies on a bull?

back from Oregon

w(ow ! really tired even on tues pm. Got back Mon 5:45 pm. Too tired to post dealing with simple things, should I shower or eat first, start slicing onions and potatoes and say to self SHOWER!!! :mooning:
Well the weekend started out kind of crazy my buddy (Scott, from Ore) called on Thurs to say he picked up a load to deliver in Morgan Hill on fri am (10 mi from me) (he's a trucker) and should have a load to go back and be in camp fri eve or sat am, you go and meet with Toby and go set up camp. get to medford pick up tag and lic and go by scotts to see his new mount wow 180# Tom Cougar. will try to post pics later. called Scott, load was wrong for his trailer, got locked in the yard, etc., ect.,
He says go hunting!! called Toby and met to go to camp. After a late nite of wine, catching up on family stuff and planning areas to work sat we rise to the 5:00 alarm... coffee, re-asure plan, I'm to check the spring at the bottom of the hill for tracks or animals and head to the clear cuts a mile up the hill..... no sign, no tracks, (old) no nutin. climb. get to the road that splits the clear cuts @ 7:15, take a short break catch my breath and start looking.... sorry I'm gonna take a smoke break I'll be back in 5

ok I'm starting to walk the road through the cuts where I kicked up a nice bull and two cows last year, I get about 100 yrds start to round a corner and bam!! the hill below me erupts and up jumps a cow and her youngin onto the road... no shot at the cow, behind a tree, and the youngin was too small I look over the edge (bad mistake) and they scatter..... 30 cows, 1 fork, lots of bodies no bull. I spot a cow behind a small tree (3 inches) and say ok 50yrds... hold on vitals 1..2..exhale... shot low, below brisket. they all bolt and thats that. watch as they cross the road 100+ yrds ahead...dam!! call Toby on the radio and he shows up and we double check everything put rangefinder on spot a get 65yrds dam!! big animals!!
