If I had that tag I would live in that unit till opener. I agree get to know the heard and there patterns so on opener you are ready. Good luck keep us posted on scouting and hunt please
Cliff from Dry Creek Outfitters is familiar with the area and will be taking me out there. Unfortunately due to a recent promotion I will not be able to do the scouting myself. I don’t want to blow this once in a life time opportunity. They will pre season scout, set up a camp, take me out and if successful pack it out. Very good rate for a top notch outfitter.
Got it done. Its amazing how you can meet some amazing friends in the most unusual places. This is exactly what happened on this hunt. I definitely could not have done it without them. Met a couple of guys who are hunting aficionados. They were out there as if this was there hunt, looking and looking until we found this guy. On opening day we creeped up to this guy to about 260 yards and waited all morning and most afternoon for him to get up from his bed. He finally got up and walked around feeding but never far from his cows. He presented a shot and I took at 285 yards. He dropped where he was. I have to admit I never understood how rare a Tule elk is and to believe I drew a tag for one. This hunt experience was enhanced by meeting new friends who took me out to a small area not closed to the fires and finding this great bull. I cant forget to mention that my 77 year old dad accompanied me on this hunt. The only way this hunt would have been better was if my dad would have been the one who drew the tag.
Outstanding. Congratulations on a nice bull! My father was with me when I drew in 2009, he was 68 then....never forget that one, nor will you! Hope you get it mounted!
Did I mention this was a 7x7x1 bull. Yes 7x7x1. He had one point stuck to the back of his head from a fight with another bull. We saw he’s challenger and he was a stud himself, very wide.
Congratulations. That is an absolutely fantastic bull. I've heard tons of guys complain that even if you get drawn, it's almost impossible to find an Owen's Valley bull with mostly intact antlers. They say the y don't get the right nutrition and their antlers are weak and they bust them off rutting. Having your Dad with you must have made it even more special.
