I'm looking to buy 4 - 5 dozen Honker Decoys and I'm looking for opinions on two brands

Greenhead Gear and Final Approach.

Both seem to cost about the same, the local Sportsmans Warehouse carries the Greenhead Gear, but I haven't been able to have a good look at the Final Approach Decoys.

Would be for the Shell Decoys, cant afford the full bodys

Any Opinions

Thanks

I have hunted over EVERYTHING except dropzone, and have seen those in person, for the money green head gear is the best buy, but apperently Jeff Foiles has switched to FA so I'm sure the straight meat cult will be heading that direction, I LOVE FA'S blinds no question they are the best, but I'm afraid in dekes they are a close second to avery. I still like hunting of dave smiths the best!

Here's my honest opinion, save your cash, buy yourself the Dave Smiths, he's making honkers for 2006-2007, buy couple dozen lessors to mix it up, trust me, it does not make a difference, I've hunted over all Dave Smiths decoys, and they are the lessors. I would buy quality over quanity when it comes to Canadas.

I looked up the Dave Smith Decoys, and it would cost me $3000 for the amount of decoys I'm looking to buy.

Yes they did look good, but I get Honkers landing in my 20 year old G&H decoys.

Birds out here aren't as wary as they are back there I'm betting too.

But thanks for your imput.

Dave Smith's up in my area. He does make quality work. Short of synthetic feather to make faux-stuffers, he's gone about as far as he can go. He's worked on or is working on all subspecies and a variety of poses.
And neck collars in the appropriate colors. Don't know if the geese care,. I sat next to an employee of his at a restraunt the other night. The went on and on and on about the damn neck collars. How much innovation do you need in a decoy?

The one thing that he admitted to his friend was that the Smith dekes were not durable as far as paint was concerned. They are painted to look like the real thing and need the extra care to maintain them that way.

They are in the Wilammette Valley. Most of the guys with access are guides or are people who can afford a mess of ultra realistic dekes. Sillos and shells only work for a short period of time into the season.

Less is more!

but if you are going to buy shells. GHG might be the better option they are going to make a Fully Flocked Shell this year along with life size shells if i rember right. or i have heard good things about the higdon stackable shell decoys.

Consider half full body GHG and half shells. Seems to work for a good buddy of mine, and his budget is very tight and he still lolads up on honks. Take your extra cash and buy a good call.

Hey Rabbit....... Did you & pops get the "Herters Suc Duc" , or the "Carrylite Aqua Vac" ??? I see they both make that suction concept floater decoy and the Millinium Herters looks nice
<

I would have to say the best looking Honker floater and durability, would be Bigfoot floaters, if you have HC's or DSD's, you make some water stakes for them that work wonders in the spread. Da Rabbit, was up little buddy, putting decoys in the pool, you got to Love It.
