I used to hunt with a guy like that. Didn't really matter what the situation was, he always felt entitled and was often irratated with my success. Some dudes just have a hard time seeing something besides themselves.:thumbs-down:
Nice job on the hog.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks you messed up.......

With all respect...where do you think he messed up?

From what I gather he worked away from the other hunters to a distance of at least 300 yards from where they split up. 300 yards is a LONG way...even in a straight line. Sounds like our successful hunter was doing just that...hunting. Using the environment, stalking and taking the opportunity when it presented itself.

Him saying initially that he'd give the other guys the first shot was a "contract" of sorts...(and real sportsmanlike!) but if it were me I'd also understand that once we split up...it was each man for himself.

After seeing the pigs--300 yards and DOWN a canyon--Was he supposed to break contact--extract himself--get the attention of the other guys (who knows--THEY could have been on pigs too!) and then retrace his steps and hope the hogs were still there? If the other guys had just stood there it would be 600 yards round-trip. 1800 feet. 1/3 of a mile!

How long does it take you to walk that far on flat open ground--making all the noise you want (and not caring about the wind direction, etc.)? In general, pigs move!

I guess you can tell where my sentiments lie...but I've got an open mind. I'd like to hear your alternative plan.

Meanwhile...congrats to shovelslayer!

p.s. Totally unrelated--but why did some of us who've been on the board for a while get kicked back to "newguy" status? Was it the change-over of the server???
