Way to go Brion! That is a great bull and a tough hunt.
Full moon, archery deer hunters, heat.
I hunted the whole season as well and did the same stuff you did. Ground blinds/treestands near water holes and hiking and calling. Wednesday (9.9) was the first bugle we heard.
I had 2 elk encounters (rag horn and spike on day 3, busted in wide open burn area) and then on day 10, a valley full of 70-100 animals from a huge 7x7, several nice 6x6's and 20 or so lesser bulls, mixed with cows and calfs, an hour before dark and 6 miles to the pickup.
I got a short video clip of them bugling, fighting, thrashing trees etc.
A cow from way up the valley (250 yards or so) took off through the rest of them and they all followed. I was unable to get on them again.
While I was in blinds and on stands, I had a bear come to water @ 20 yards, and a 120-140 lb Mtn. Lion come within 20 feet of my ground blind! He acted like he didn't even know we were there until he passed. Also so a flock of 30 Turkeys.
It was an amazing experience and I felt like Marty Stouffer on Wild America!
I tried calling you on Sunday (9.6) afternoon to share notes, and your phone went straight to VM.
Again, congrats on a great bull.
