It was just me with the guys this weekend, my sisters didn't think hunting javelina
in the desert sounded like much fun. They were slightly mistaken. It was GREAT!
We hunted all day Saturday and Sunday, my brother-in-law,(yeah, we took the in-
law
) he's really not all that bad, don't tell anyone I said that. Anyway
he got the first one, we saw the javelina on a hill about 150 yards from where we
were and he had to stalk it a little ways, he missed the first shot, but shooting off
hand without a rest isn't all that easy. He got another chance and nailed it! They
sure are ugly little creatures! We got his all taken care of and went to another
area where we were actually looking for auodad, but off in the distance we saw
more javelina, this time my husband took a shot at it, from about 150 yards away,
and he got it! First shot! I know that got to my brother-in-law, so he had to try it
again. I don't mind lettin' the guys go at it for a little while! He picked one out and
shot, damn, missed again. But they didn't go too far, he got another chance, this
time successful. Next, we were off on a hike looking for auodad, didn't see a
single one! Saw a lot of mule deer, not in season
they are kindof
weird, not like white tail that run like hell just hearing you, the mule deer didn't
seem scared at all. Ok, I was getting a little tired, we hiked and hiked! Finally de-cided to hell with the auodad, so we got back to the truck and started to drive back
to the camp, the guide looked out his window and saw about a dozen javelina
running. They were a little ways away but we were by a concrete water trough, so
I had a rest from which to make my shot. We got out, the guys seem to get more
freaked out when it's my turn. I get to the rest, and get ready to shoot, I'm fine,
calm, not rushed, if they run off, so be it, but the guys, oh my , can you calm down
a little!!!!!
So I'm ready to shoot, the javelina are about 150 yards away, I
guessed, and the guide keeps asking "can she make the shot?" Yes, if he would
hush!!!!! I picked one out and squeezed the twigga, ka-blam, down he went, and
then another javelina came back to the one I shot, none to happy that his friend
was down, looked like he wanted to fight something, so I ducked, let him see the
guys!! They did it!!!
The other javelina finally ran off and we went to get
mine, they measured out the shot to be about 175 yards, used my .243 , love
that gun, it doesn't kick me!! Here's a pic, the guys are shy, they won't let me
post one of them!!
Fun Hunt! Can't wait to go again, Cathy
