Bear attacks B.C. hunter
CP
PRINCE GEORGE , B.C. -- A 73-year-old hunter is in serious condition in hospital after he was attacked Sunday by a grizzly bear in the Robson Valley, east of Prince George in northern B.C. The experienced outdoorsman, believed to be from southern B.C., was attacked from behind while hunting near the Fraser River, senior conservation officer Jim Corbett said yesterday.
"The bear bit him on his arm and leg, and then his head and facial area," said Corbett. "Apparently, once he was knocked to the ground, the bear left him alone."
The hunter was able to get to his feet, then fired shots to attract his partner, also in his 70s, who came to his assistance, said Corbett.
Four conservation officers from a special grizzly attack investigation team were in the attack area early yesterday but were unable to locate the exact scene of the attack as fresh snow made tracking difficult.
