My dad drew a Period 4 bull at Grizzly Island. We have only been putting in for this hunt for at least 20 years. So stoked for my dad and glad he will get his chance before he is too old.

Thanks guys. I am completely thrilled that dad drew it while he is still able to hunt. He turns 78 next month and still fishes with me every weekend. Last year was the last year of us hunting our usual spot in Colorado due to the elevation and cold becoming too much for dad. So this hunt is perfect timing. I couldn't be more thrilled for him. I have already made a call to the biologist on Grizzly and had a great talk with him. We are going to head out there on Sunday and have a little look around. I will post updates on here as we work through the preseason and the hunt.

We got out to Grizzly to look at the elk this weekend. Enjoyed ourselves and layed eyes on 40 to 45 branch antlered bulls. Visibility is difficult due to the flat nature of the area and tall vegetation.

He shouldn't have a problem hntndux, spikes were everywhere we went. Things will change a lot by the time of the hunt since we will be in the rut. Right now the bulls are by themselves and the cows are by themselves. Spikes were mixed in with both groups. come the rut they are going to be the third wheel so not sure where they will go. But man there were a lot of them.

Saw a guy glassing off of a ladder set up in the back of his truck during a cow elk hunt a few years ago… just a thought on how you could gain some elevation

Yeah, ladders, tool boxes, lumber racks are all ideas on gaining elevation. Being stable in the wind will be the challenge. But I will try any and all. lol Thanks.

Have fallen off on my updates as of late. We have been out to the refuge a couple more times since my last report. Lots of bulls each trip. Saw one bull that far out classed the bulls he was with that would likely be a shooter but with the afternoon heatwave we couldn't see him clearly at all. The rut is going and bulls have their cows grouped up, its just going to be a mater of finding a good one and then getting dad into position. My dad is besides himself with excitement over this hunt and its great to see a 78 year old, usually stoic man acting like a kid.

A couple of cool things that have occurred as of recent. I met a guy who had a bull tag on Grizzly last year and we have been talking a lot. He will be heading out there this coming weekend with us for the last scouting before the hunt. I also met another guy through a fishing website that owns a duck club on Van Sickle Island, which is right next to Grizzly. He invited dad and I to stay at his club during the hunt so we don't have to drive the 20-25 minutes to and from Fairfield each day. Dad and I ran out to the duck club Friday evening, met the owner, picked up a set of keys and looked around. It keeps getting better!
