I stopped by Grizzly Island yesterday and will put in tags for this year. DFG agent said they harvested 49 out of 50 tags last year. The last guy took two shots at an elk and missed them both. Does anyone have
and hunting stories at Grizzly Island.

It is very hard to draw for, but has an almost 100% success rate. There was a 13 year old female first time hunter who scored on a 10x11 some years back.

It's a dang near impossible draw for a bull, but the critters are there and there are some huge ones. Haven't hunted them, but had them in my decoy spread a couple years back while duck hunting. Impressive animals!

Good luck in the draw. I donate every year for a cow elk over there, but no luck for me.

I will be hunting ELK this year however it will be in Colorado / EF003L1R. I just checked the Colorado DOW
and got the results. I will be hunting late season cows out of Craig, Colo in the NW part of the state.
I will put in for a bull tag at Grizzly Island just for the point.

I drew a Bull tag back in 2001. It's a easy hunt...the only hard is that others are hunting spikes and cows while your hunting bulls. Since most shoot the first cow or spike they see the shooting can come on fast and the bulls make a run for it. Once they are off the DFG propertyline they are OFF LIMITS!!! So even though it is a 3 day hunt you better scout out your bull..spend the night on the island or a motel nearby and be ready to pounce once the hunting begins. Here is a couple pics of my 2001 Bull. RG

My son drew the Bull Tag in 2002 and harvested a 8x8 bull. Lots of animals and a fun hunt. The Elk is at Mel Cottons Sporting goods in San Jose. Dont have pictures due to my hephew erasing them all on his digital camera. I myself Dad drew a Spike bull tag last year 2005 and had a fun hunt but did not harvest my bull till the last day. The presure of the hunters will drive the animals off the Island onto private property but usually will come back the next morning. Great hunt if you get drawn.

If you get drawn for the Grizzly Island bull hunt, do you lose your accumulated points...even though they do not consider points for that tag? (I know the probable answer....

Yes you lose your points if drawn for any elk or antelope hunt or first choice premium deer hunt.
