Wanting to plan a bow or gun elk hunt for 2004 season. I have never been before and was looking for guide service in Colorado. Anyone here used Badger Creek Outfitters? I want to try and keep the price under 2500 if possible. Also if anyone has info on a combo elk-mule deer hunt.

I'm no super-experienced CO Elk hunter, having only been on one hunt so far. If someone asked, I would certainly recommend the guide I went with though.. Bruce Hyatt Outfitters from Montrose. He hunts Units 61 and 62, and you hunt from a cabin, not from tents. He's situated in some good country, and he hunts both public and private land.

There are a lot of outfitters up there, though, and it's awesome hunting. Tons of elk, although you may or may not be into prime trophy country.
As to keeping the hunt under $2500... well, that'll be tough and it's getting tougher. Hyatt was one of the cheaper hunts I've seen, and he's raising rates this year to top the $2500 mark. Seems like the average is closer to $3K.
You can also check out some of the hunting guide report services, such as Huntingconsultant.com and do a search on a particular guide. Sometimes they're listed, and sometimes they're not.
Ask for references from the operation too. Ask for not only successful hunters, but guys who ate their tags.

Poco Mtn Outfitters is in the price range your looking for and thats for a Elk/Deer combo hunt in GMU 58. I have never seen anything very big in that GMU as far as racks go, but if you just want to shoot an Elk and any legal Bull will do it would probably be fun. And I'm sure there are big one there like anywhere
For an Elk only hunt its $1800.
