I know nothing of the specific operation but I have hunted several different ranches in that area and there are a ton of pigs. Its tough, steep and brushy. You'll be out somewhere near Bitterwater and Paicenes. This is the same area as the Rock Springs Ranch (Orvis endorsed snooty hunting lodge). If the ranch is any size and if it has any barley and water, you'll do fine. And welcome to the board!

Rudy,

Was the hunt spot-n-stalk, or was it with dogs? What was the total cost?

Enquiring minds wanna know.

Congrats on your hog!

Yes it was spot and stalk. and we drove around the area To. And no he doesnt use dogs. The area were i shot my pig there were no trees for a few miles we were driving when the guide says pig he tells me get out of the truck slow. The pig was about 300 yards out and coming straight at us the guide said let it get as close as he can. when he got about 50 yards away he looked right at us. So in my mind i said now or never i shot him right in the head and about 30 seconds later the pig got up and was runing with his head down so i shot again behind the sholder and he went down like a ton of bricks the head shot was a graies shot. About the guide and ranch

Hello spekmisser did you book a hunt with rick at spur ranch if so please post. the morning of the hunt i was driving to the ranch about 3:20 in the morning when two hogs walk out in front of my truck on the rd. 25 man that really got my blood pumping. in the morning were we went first thing we were on top of a mountain looking down were the guide says the pigs will come from. so were waiting and boom, boom, boom shots were going off were the hogs come from. turns out that theres another guide over the ridge. So from there we drive over to a nother area and we run into about a pack of 5 coyotes and they run off into a area with no trees so we keep travaling along when the guide spoted the hog. man when you least expect it. It happens quick. the hog never seen us intill before i shot him at 50 yards. have you ever hunted on a guided hunt . well good luck and good hunting

Hey Rudy,

I believe it was Gunner that was planning to book a hunt at Spur Ranch, not me. I've pretty much spent my hunt money for this year, pending one more budget trip that I'm working on.

I've only been on a fully-guided hog hunt once, and that was a trip using dogs. I went on and on about it here on JHP a while back, so I'll save everyone the repeat. If you want to read it, it's on my my website. It did not make me a big fan of using dogs.

Once I found the Tejon Ranch hunts, I pretty much moved away from any other plans for guided hunts. I like to do it myself, and the Tejon Ranch is unguided...but loaded with hogs.

The rest of the time, I'm eating tag and track soup hunting on public lands.
