Sorry I can't be of any help, I have only used a guide once and it was bow only. Great place but that won't help you much since you are both rifle. Do some searching and read through a few pages of posts, there are plenty discussing guides. I can't think of any specific ones to point you at but if you do a search on the word "Guide" in the hog forum you should have about 3 days of reading and some good info. Good luck !!!!

NoFear,

I thought some of the guys would sing out with their favorites, since there has been so much discussion about guides here in the past. Personally, the only fully guided hog hunts I've been on were either archery or with dogs.

As BDB said, run a search on guides and you'll find a plethora of information. Some other keywords you might use include:

Frank Morasci
Mustang Guide Service
Boaring Experiences
King City
Paso Robles
Twisselman Outfitters
Camp 5

Good luck. There are a bunch of good guides out there. When you start talking with one, the most important thing you can do is be extremely clear about your expectations, your limitations, and your experience level. Once that's done, the next most important thing is to LISTEN TO THE GUIDE when you're in the field.

Hey Bobcat,

When's the last time you hunted with Bill?

Did a hunt with him in A-zone way back a few years ago, and had a ball. He's a quality guy, no doubt!

Glad to see he finally got a website.

Spec: I saw he has hunts listed for $700 for 2 days archery in A-zone(deer). I also noticed it is all public land. Do you think the chances with this guy are decent?? Just curious as I'd probably fork it over if there is a good chance of seeing animals and having a chance at a few stalks.

Steve,

When I hunted with him we hit an area of public land that was very close to the highway, yet we only saw one other group of guys who had actually come in from a private ranch. I think that, like several public land guides, he has some spots that most folks either don't know about (like the one we hunted) or most folks are unwilling/unable to get there.

I can't say that he can offer that for every hunt, but he does pack in on horseback, and specializes in the Ventana Wilderness area.

It's been about six years since that hunt, though, so you'd do well to talk to him in person and get the info. What I will vouch for is that he's a really good guy, and he will go out of his way to make sure you have a good hunt.

Oh yeah... on my hunt we saw several deer, and I passed on a small forkie. We had circumstances that kept us from getting way back into the back country also, but that was discussed and agreed-upon before I ever arrived.

Cool, thanks for the info. I have done some camping in LPNF just north of big sur at a place called Botchers Gap. Always saw lots of deer and even ran into a bow hunter on my first trip there. Always went to go digging around down there but never have made it. Maybe this year !!
