Freedivr2 started out by killing the worlds skinniest hog. This old nag was nothing other than skin and bones. He made a nice 200 yard+ running shot(s).

Then I made the mid-day interesting with the worlds fattest pig. We all thought she was pregnant, but no, just fat. Her carcass looked like Farmers John's finest. Please excuse the Hollywood pose. I learned it by watching BOHNTR. I know, I need some chest hair and a gold chain. I was sweating after running across and through the river to get to this pig.

FD2 finished off the hunt by smoking a meatball of a young boar with another amazing running heart shot. No still pics but I got it all on video. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to post video. I could use some pointers or it might have to wait a few day before I can take it to a techie buddy of mine.

I'll get more detail in here when I have more time.

Another epic hunt with my boys Frank and Kek with Mustang Guide Service.

Man that's a fat hog...Good job, guys.

Nate, you'll notice I'm not going to point out that your little bro obviously got the looks and hair you missed out on...I'm too big for that.

Wow, what a contrast in condition between those two sows, huh? That old, skinny, spent sow looked totally normal running uphill at 200 yards, but when we walked up on her, wow......I just have never seen anything quite like that in all the hogs I've taken so far. And she wasn't sick, her body was just plain spent. She'd been around a few years, check out the size of her tusks in the first picture; Spearman first thought she was a boar when he saw the tusks as we brought her down out of the draw she was in. Definitely an oldie but a goodie who probably put a few litters on the ground over the years. We estimated that she weighed about 130 but if she'd been in good shape, would've weighed at least 180. She had lost a lot of muscle weight. In quartering her out tonight, I noticed that she had two big middle ribs on one side that had been completely broken (not from a bullet, just broken from who knows what), but had completely mended back up. While I don't know if that caused the muscle atrophy or not, I thought it was interesting that it migh've been the case. But who knows..........

While we missed a chance at meeting Spec up in that neighborhood this weekend, I had an absolute blast up there this weekend. It honestly just doesn't get much more fun that it did for us yesterday, but I'll let Nate fill you guys in on all the details (hopefully including the unique way that Nate got a two-fer-one shot on a couple of Valley quail...........and the quick and sanitary kill he had on his big fatty).........

And Spearman, I don't think I've EVER seen anyone get more excited about someone else whackin animals than you do. I sure enjoyed seeing your good spirit come out like that, as that just added to the excitment and fun.

Way to go, fellas! Nate and Free, wish I could've met up...but it sounds like a drive out to Bryson was definitely NOT a good idea for ya'll on Saturday night. Just as well, too, because we ended up in the field until well after dark.

Next time, for sure...

No worries at all, Nate. We were so whipped when we rolled back in on Saturday night, I don't think we'd have been very good company at all. And with all the pigs and deer on that Jolon Road, I definitely wouldn't have wanted you OR me to be driving down there after a drink or two.

Just finished posting up about my hunt. We didn't do as good as ya'll.

So it went down like this...

Friday night we have a few hours to hunt and ran a ridge with some good sign under the oaks. Free spots two black things under a tree in the bottom. We get on the stalk and execute it perfectly, only to stalk up on two black calfs. Good one Free.

Back in the truck and we are working up the canyon bottom. Spot pigs off on the left and they already have us made and are moving out. No chance for me with the bow so Myke goes after them. He lays down prone and dumps the running pig at 200 yards on the third shot. That was the skinny granny pig.

We load her up and work up the canyon just another half mile before we spot a good group of 12+ hogs. They don't know we are there and I get on the sneak. I get to about 45 yards and run out of cover. The pigs are behind some trees with overhanging limbs but they are working towards me. I decide to wait them out and let them work to me into the clearing when I feel a tickle on the back of my neck. The wind 180'd on me. The lead pig sticks her nose up, gets a whiff and takes the whole herd with her. Game over.

Another mile later and another group of 20+ pigs. Same deal. I sneak in perfectly with the wind in my grill to about 40 yards and the pigs are behind trees. I'm already within range but wanted one big pig white a white band that was in the back of the herd. Again, I feel the tickle on the back of my neck and they had enough of me.

Done for the night.

Sat AM we spot a big lone boar working up a canyon. We position ourselves up the canyon to intercept him. Frank had another single hunter who had been there since Friday am and had had a few chances but had'nt connected. He put him up on a ridge overlooking the little canyon where we thought the boar would come up. I dropped down into the canyon to try to intercept at close range with the bow. Once I got down into the canyon, the wind moved on me again and was blowing right down canyon to where we thought the pig would come up. Not wanting to blow the whole gig, I backed out. I got back to the truck and we moved on to another part of the ranch. We later found out that right after I left the boar came right up the canyon and walked right past where I had been waiting for him. Fortunately, the other guy dumped him. I was happy for him as it was a nice pig and I knew that the boar never would have worked up through there if I had stayed put, so I was glad I had backed out.

We go check some other area when we run across a small covey of quail. I jump out just in time to dump two birds with one shot. Never done that before. As we are working our way down to the river we jump a coyote. He runs up a canyon with a creek ditch next to the road. Kek jams on the gas and gets ahead of the coyote as it is running up the creekbed not 10 feet from the truck. Kek jumps out and shoots just over the coyote. Oh well, it was a fun chase. We then get on another coyote as it was putting the sneak on a couple bedded deer. This coyote was retarded. As we stopped the truck it actually came out into the open and stood still to check us out. That was his last move. I think we all got shots in on him and I think we all hit him.

Down to the river. We take the dogs and spread out and work down river (which is actually North, weird) into the wind. The river bottom is just chock full of fresh sign. We work the far bank for a half mile before stopping. Kek wants to stop right here for a few minutes and let the wind shift around to let the dogs get a whiff of the other side of the river. Kek entertains himself by trying to catch a crawdad. I see one of the dogs noses go up in the air and get the smell of something good across the river. There they go. All three dogs go booking across the river and into heavy cover.

20 seconds later we hear a bark. Then some gutteral growling. Then more barks, then some squeeling. Game on. I jump right in the river and run across to the other side. A small pig scoots out, almost runs my brother over and runs out across the sandbar at me. I get to the far bank and the noise is gnarly. Sounds like a serious brawl.

I get closer and the dogs obviously have something bayed up in cover that is impenatrable and 10 feet tall. Finally the hog makes a break and comes out into a small clearing in front of me. The dogs back her up into a steep creekbank in a tiny hole of brush with overhanging sticks. This was going to be tricky to do right. I came to full draw and let down at least 5 times due to dog safety. I needed to make sure the dogs were totally clear and that my arrow would be safe after it hit the pig. Kek was back with Myke on the other side of the river in case another pig broke so Myke could shoot. I was on my own with Taylor watching the show. To do this right was was going to be tough as the dogs and the pig were dancing all over the place. At one point a dog got behind the pig and this fat girl actually layed on him and pressed him up into the creek bank. This was not a small dog and he disappeared under the pig. Another dog's bite to the ear distracted the pig enough to let him up.

Finally all three dogs danced around to off the head of the pig and I got my chance. I zipped one right through the onside shoulder and it came out right behind the other shoulder and buried 14" into the dirt bank on the other side. It was actually a good scenario as the arrow buried deep into the bank keeping it out of harms way and the business end safe from the dogs.

The pig hit her knees and was dead within 3 seconds. That was the fastest arrow kill I've ever seen. The amount of blood was unreal.

Yes, I would have ideally preferred to spot and stock to kill a pig but the wind was really tough. It was blowing all over and made stalking really hard. And, I'm no purist. I personally have nothing against hunting with dogs. If you've never done it, the rush is really intense. It's chaotic and exciting. I certainly have no regrets about it. If you think otherwise, you can bite me.

Frank showed up for the drag out and gave word that he had another pig spotted asleep in its bed a few miles away. We loaded the big girl up and got after it.

We got to the area and there was a bed under a tree way up a cliff. Almost a sheer cliff. There was no way you could get to him. You could just see a tiny black line that was the pig in his bed. How Frank spotted that thing was beyone me.

We stay down low and on the other side of a big flat the pig would have to cross if he jumped. Frank went up around and above the pig. He rolled a big rock down towards the bed and the pig came boiling out of there. He ran down the hill and straight at us. Across the flat and we just let him keep coming. He dropped down into a creek bank to our right.

Myke picked him up as he ran up the creek about 125 yards from us. Myke swings out in front and piles the pig with one shot. The hog visibly stumbled, shook it off then ran 25 more yards and ran head first into a tree, flipped backwards and croaked 20 yards from the road. He hit that thing right in the heart. One of the best shots on game I've ever seen. I got it all on video. Nice one Myke. He was about 90 lbs and a perfect eater. Actually a perfect second pig. We load up and are on our way.

To the bar that night where a less than attractive girl proceeded to chew my ear off the entire night. Hey Myke, when your buddy is kicking you profusely from under the table, it means "GET ME OUT OF THIS!" Aside from that experience, a great time was had by all. Par for the course with Mustang Guide Service.

It was definitely fat as you can see in the skinned photo, but still totally wild and mean. I know you're kidding but there were no fences here. She fought the hell out of those dogs. Had she been a big toothy boar, we probably would of had some serious dog injuries. The field photo makes her look a little fatter that she really was due to the stick in front of her hind legs that is holding her up for the photo. That made her belly stick out like One Track's.

Oooh... dang! This could be about to get interesting, 'cause I KNOW OneTrack can't sit idly and let that one pass right by.
