FML. My hams came back from the butcher after being honey cured. Exciting right!? Wrong. They taste like SH*T. Salty as all hell and absolutely inedible. They were prepared just like the rest of the hams this place had, which were delicious when i sampled the meat before sending my precious hams off to be cured. WTF do I do with 35 lbs of sh*itty ham? It's really not edible and I'm of the mentality that you never waste any of your kill out of respect (except for gut piles. those are yote bait). Any advice? i've tried cooking some like bacon and it still tastes like ballslop. Any advice would greatly be appreciated......THX!!

You can try soaking them in water and potatoe's for a few days. It'll take alot of the salt out.

You might try shredding it, soaking it in the crock pot with a soup mix. (i.e. cream of mushroom) This takes out some of the saltiness and masks the bad favor. Other than that its dog food.

BTW- I've gotten in the habit of turning the hams and making venison jerky. Good stuff.

Well first of all, you shoulda done it yourself. It's pretty easy.
But now your stuck with it. Try making some soup or chili. You can pretty much slow-cook anything and it should come out ok.

I would have MUCH preferred to do it myself, but i have neither any experience with charcuterie, nor a smoker... and I wanted that honeybaked ham flavor, which this butcher's samples had. 35lbs of ham in soup? man, it's not cold enough for that much soup and my freezer can't accomodate that much tupperware! I'll try soaking a piece.

You can also cook them slowly in a crockpot with some beans. White beans, Pinto Beans, its all good. Make some good ol' cornbread and I'll be over for dinner!

Gotta go my mouth is watering,
