I know it was mentioned before... does anybody want to Caravan up to the Ham Slam?

Ed and I are leaving from Santee (east of San Diego) sometime in the early AM Friday morning. We want to arrive on time to check in at 10am
<
! It's our first time to Tejon, and we'll have to hit the fire station in Lebec to get brush certified.

If anyone else is headed that way, we'd sure like to meet up and follow. How about suggestions for a time and place?

Hey Ozstriker22,

I live in Santee also. I'm planning to leave my house around 7 AM which should get me to Tejon around 10:30 or 11:00. I am going to stop at Vons to pick up some ice, then hit the road.

What time were you planning to head out?

Patrick

You boys coming up from San Diego better take into account rush hour traffic, especially if your coming up the 5. By 7am the 5 freeway going northbound from about the LA/OC county line can be a shit sandwich. I live in Fullerton (I'm about 5 minutes north of Disneyland) and plan on leaving no later than 6am to make it to Lebec by 830am.

Brush Certified/inspected: Correct, all vehicles entering Tejon need to be approved by the fire department to make sure they aren't a fire risk. I am not sure exactly where the fire department is located... but I know it's in Lebec.

Departure time: We WILL be facing rush hour traffic. It'll look like a giant a$$ pyrimid on the 5. We were thinking about leaving around 5:30am. Give us time to face traffic, and get the vehicle inspected. Show up at Tejon around 10:00 or 10:30.

Set up camp, eat lunch, and start scouting for the evening hunt.

What do you think?

I'm not going anywhere near hwy 5 until I'm north of LA. I'm taking 15 to hwy 10 west, then take 210 which goes past Pasedena to hwy 5. The only place I will have traffic is on hwy 10 and its only a few miles. Last year it took me about 3 1/2 hours to get to the ranch. I don't really want to get there much before 11 anyway because we can't get onto the ranch before 12. The fire inspection is really quick, about 10 minutes and the fire station is just down the street from the ranch gate.

I will be checking the forum several more times today and this evening. If you want to change your plans, we can drive together. If you don't, then I'll see you up there. Even if you leave early, you should go around LA. The traffic on hwy 5 is so unpredictable.

See ya,

Patrick

pwhite, that sounds like a very good route. We'll definitely try that route instead of 5 all the way. Didn't speck say they're opening the gate at 10:00am? I'll see if I can find the post. If they don't open till 12 then we'll head up later, and caravan with you. If they're open at 10:00am then we'll try to get there at 10.

Either way, look forward to meeting a fellow Clantee (Ha Ha) hunter.

According to the events forum Ham Slam announcment, it looks like a good number of people will be arriving there between 9 and 10 to check in. Open gate around 10:30 or 11 hopefully.

We're going to try to be there at 10am. 10 - 3.5 hours drive = 6:30 departure.

Hey Ozstriker22,

What are you driving, I'll look for you on the road? I am planning to take off at 7 AM, but I'll try to get out of here a little earlier. I'm driving a black Toyota Tundra with a black cap, and I have an NRA sticker on the cap.

See ya tomorrow,

Patrick

FYI
take the 210 to the 118 (La Canada) then that skips all of Burbank and hits the 5.

210 to the 118, even better! Thanks!

We're driving a grayish brown Ranchero with a Rebel Flag painted on the roof. I'll be the redneck with no teeth and a hunter safety orange baseball cap. There'll be roadkill stuck to the tires and a gunrack in the window.

Ok, so the grayish brown part is correct. It's a ford explorer. 2000 model? Don't think there are any stickers... there are flowmasters and the windows are tinted. That's about all I can remember.

We'll see ya on the road! My cell is 619-787-8889.

Guys
Stay on 210 all the way to the 5 , the 118 drops back down. Also look out for Pasadena traffic at about 7 . Good luck to all, hope its a 100% take, then the battle is just for size.
