Are you talking about Hamilton as in Larry Hamilton out of Paso Robles? If so.....DON'T DO IT!!! I can give you more info if this is who you're referring to.
He called back after I left a message. What he's selling is 1 year memberships for $300 if you join with a buddy ($600). Each guy can take 2 hogs. If the hog's under 100 lbs, it doesn't count. But, if the hog's over 100 lbs it counts as one of your hogs. Each hunting party gets half of a 5,000 - 6,000 acre ranch when they get a reservation which he claims you can get with 2 - 3 weeks advance notice. Supposedly 2 tons of barely seed spread annually but no tilled fields (some red flags there).
Anyway, there's only one positive feedback from BobCatJess here verses a good 10+ negative comments about this guys business ethics. Yes it sounded good and he's a pretty smooth talker alright....and I'm a hair vulnerable (...bit of a stretch
) since I no longer have access to 3,000 acres that was every bit as good as the Tejon if not a shade better.
So, it sounded good but his history doesn't check out. Goes to show that JHO is a great huntin' knowledge center....
Yeah, Boaring would know if he's from Parkfield! Hamilton was about as popular as a rug burn in the town of Parkfield! I find it funny that he doesn't advertise locally, my thought it's because local guys like me actually USE the facility on a regular basis and he is forced to actually produce. After the last time he scammed my 2 buddies and I, he called my buddies to renew their membership but NEVER called me because I was the guy elected to make the arrangement whenever we would want to go out there and I would always hold him to what he said....he didn't like that, I could tell.
I'm guessing he's the same guy from Parkfield. I don't know too much. But the stuff I know I think I'll save it for another place. Let's just say that there's some huge issues with credibility and honesty there.
I'm down yonder in Arroyo Grande, Boaring. I have spent a good chunk of time in Parkfield over the years, know some Varians, Van Horns, a few others. Spent some of that time on Hamilton's property too. Just last Saturday eve I came into Parkfield via the Parkfield Grade from one of my leases where the grade and 198 intersect. Was up there for an all day squirrel shoot and had to come in to town for one of the Cafe's typically awesome steak dinners with the trimmings. My wife and I drive out there for dinner quite regularly. Best in the county, maybe state as far as I'm concerned!
I too have spent many hours in the cafe either by myself or with my clients over the years. They do know how to cook a steak and tri-tip that is true. Fries are a little greasy though.
So what does Tree Doc mean? Are you an arborist or a tree trimmer?
Certified Arborist. I own and operate a Tree Care business here in SLO County, mostly south county though, SLO & south with an occasional run north of the grade if it isn't too hot!
fishhead,
I see you're from Whittier....I was born and raised in La Habra / La Habra Heights. My sister owned the little 2 story next door to the Brite Spot at Penn Street in case you know where that is....that is till the earthquake shook it up and they sold it a few years later.
I was a member a few years back. At that time he was charging $200.00 for a year membership that would allow you one hog. I should of smelled the Bull#&%! when I signed up. The first time we went to "one of his leases" we had other hunters come onto the property when we were suppose to be the only party on the ranch. Spoke with the other guys and they said that Hamilton told them no other guys were on the ranch.
We hunted a second time on another ranch he had. The second night we were there the ranch owner drove up to us and asked us to leave because he had some issues with Hamilton and he was suspending his hunting rights. We were fed up at that point. Trying to make a reservation was a joke, you always had to leave a message and he would call you back. I know some folks in Parkfield and the daughter of the ranch owner I know gave me an earful on Hamilton. The town of Parkfield dosent think to highly of this guy it sounded like. Take your $300 and put it towards a pig hunt in the central coast. Just my
