all the hogs I've killed were on private land.....but I've had the opertunity to shoot hogs on public land but was deer hunting and passed.....caught a small hog on condon peak one year.
Killed two in Coalinga on public land, after damn near a whole year of going almost everyweekend I could. But when I did get them it was very gratifying, worked my tail off for that pork, no doubt about it.
TWO TRIPS TO HUNTER LIGGETT, TWO HOGS. FIRST ONE WAS A
140 # SOW IN TA 29. SMACKED HER W/ 1 OZ. SLUG SQUARE IN THE
JAW. NEEDLESS TO SAY SHE DROPPED IN HER TRACKS. MISSED A
BIGGER HOG THAT POPPED UP BEHIND HER, THOUGH. SECOND WAS A
65 # MEAT HOG. LET'S JUST SAY WE SAW EYE TO EYE!! GREAT EXPERIENCE
AT HUNTER LIGGETT. JOHN, THE FRONT COUNTER GUY, BASICALLY TOLD ME
ON THE MAP WHERE THE HOGS WERE AT, AND LOW AND BEHOLD!!!! GOING
BACK ON THE WEEKEND OF JULY 24 TO SATISFY MY NEW ADDICTION!!
The only private land I hunt is my dad's ranch, and since there are no pigs there, I've only taken them on public land. Opps, I did shoot one on private land, but I was a guest and didn't have to pay.
I've caught several with my dogs in the brush-covered public property up here in Northern California. It's not nearly as enjoyable of an experience as hunting on private property, but it is possible.
Same thing here, too many man hours-miles-dollars-blood-sweat & tears chasing that elusive "public land hog" without even seeing a pig. Finally connected with private hunts(one pay-to-hunt & some for free). Still doing public land hunt just for the sake of letting loose the shackles of city life & maybe, just maybe bust an elusive wild boar on public land in the
process. One of these days, luck will greet me. I will not miss!!!
God Bless. larrysogla.
Never had the chance to harvest a pig from public land only private. I would be there in a heartbeat to hunt or help on public land if it was nearby and I knew there were pigs there. I hunted chuckar for years before I ever knew what one looked like. That's no lie but I'm no longer that young and don't have as much spare time to spend hunting snipe or ghost boar. Anybody know of any good spots they would like to take me to I would be willing.
I have hunted public land too many times to count with little/no success. I have seen hogs on public land three times with no shoot (too long or cover). I don't think I am alone in the feeling of not wanting to pay to hunt. I am guessing I am not a business man because I have property out of state that is good deer, bear, and hopefully elk property and I would never dream of charging someone to hunt it. I ask you guys does this make me weird or just bad business sense? I am thinking there is someone else out there that thinks the way I do?????????
I have had some kills on private properties that were friends, but those are few and far between. I am kind of thinking of trying Tejon one day just because it looks as though you guys have a great time and it's a nice piece of land.
