I want to take my son on a cow elk hunt at the Goshute reservation. I tried the internet links from the Goshute website but I cant seem to contact the outfitter. if possible could someone pm a good contact ph # or website that actually works. i would be interested in splitting the cost of a large rental van to go the reservation . If anyone is interested just pm me.

Thanks,

Hey Lefty, here's how I'd try to find their number. Go to the salt lake city classifieds for that area. They advertised in a number of different local news stations (both tv/newspaper)...you'll turn up their ad. A good google search might turns something useful up too. :)

If all else fails, go to their Nation (makes a good excuse since it's not far from I-80 if you plan on being passing thru anyway). The sheriff's drive bright red vehicles and flag one of them down. Ask for the local Wildlife Official since you'd like to harvest some cow elk for winter.

How old is your son? And in what physical condition are both of you in. The hunt with Goshute is not for the faint of heart. If the timing is right, the elk may be down in the flat when snow filled the higher mountains, and not much for your leg work. Otherwise plan for several mile hike to get to the elk. Not considering if you kill one and have to pack it out. Their fully guided cow elk hunt says your elk will be pack out from the kill spot for you, but that's only if you kill one next to the road. If you kill one a couple of miles from the nearest road, all I'm going to say is good luck having them pack it out for you without you doing half the pack out as the guide.

We killed two elk on our hunt. We weren't able to get a quad up to my buddies elk but thanks to a sudden snow storm, we were able to drag it within about 300 yards of the truck. We all helped carry it out.

My elk was killed on a flat right near a dirt road. We loaded it whole into the truck and cleaned it on a skinning rack at camp.

But, the party that was there before us, had to go about two miles in to get their elk. Rough time gettin it out. I guess is all depends on when you go. Keep in mind, the later you go, the colder it will be. We were there the second week of November. It was 9 degrees when I shot my elk.

Thanks for the heads up. My son is 16 and will be 17 by Oct 24. My son is far better shape then me no doubt. Since my son gos to school I can not take him to Ut except during the hollidays. I will see if I can time it no later then Thanksgiving which will still be very cold on the upshot the elk wont spoil if gutted quick. I dont suppose it could be done on a weekend. I guess i would need at least 3 days?
Thanks;

We hunted on a weekend. We arrived on Friday and hunted Saturday and Sunday morning. Headed home on Sunday after I got my elk. You can set up your dates with them.

Good luck to you and your son Lefty, their up there. As XDHUNTER pointed out it can be worse than it looks but we get one or two out every year not far from there.
