i got a tag for a cow elk on a depradation hunt in jackson wyoming. ive never been elk hunting and i have heard that this is an easier hunt than trekking up into the mountains and is a good hunt for first timers who dont know the amount of work involved in packing out an elk. 6 of us are going, some of them are experienced elk hunters and 2 of us have never hunted elk. should be a fun hunt and hopefully we will kill alot of elk. i would love to get a big bull but i dont really have room to mount it and i have yet to find a good recipe for antlers. see you guys at thanksgiving and hopefully ill have some good pictures

Good luck, TN!

I gotta say, while I'm pretty tickled with those antlers, I'll be hanging them in the garage (as per marital agreement... no animal parts in the house unless we're eating them). The meat, though... oh man! You'll be loving it!

Send pics!

Sounds like an excellent hunt for a first elk trip. Good luck. Cant wait to see the pics.

Speck: Funny, I seem to have the same agreement. I do have a set of antlers (not full head mount) in the house but they have been hidden away in the laundry room and I was surprised to even get that

That hunt is best to leave on short notice, when the elk are moving. It can be hit and miss depending on the weather. When it is right, you do not even need a rifle to slow you down, a good pair of sprinting shoes to get to the elk first would probabally be better. Good Luck.
