Headed out the door to Reno. Looking forward to the show, Cabela's and even Sportsman's Wherehouse. The bankers are going to love me this weekend. Good thing I don't gamble or I'd really be in trouble.
I was in Reno yesterday and saw the RMEF gearing up. Pretty awesomw! Unfortunately Cabelas was pretty disappointing to me. I expected a store like the ones you see in the catalog, but this was just a one story building smaller than Sportsmans warehouse. The salesperson I spoke with said they are scaling the stores down big time to construct 100 new stores in the next five years. Once I got over my disappointment there were some great looking mounts..
Bright sunshine this morning, but this afternoon it will probably be a whole different story. Wise to not fight the expected storm back over the pass, we are expecting 3' overnight and big winds.
Great show as usual. We headed down to Wogg's house afterwards (below Tahoe) and it only took an extra hour to go there. But yesterday! Ouch. Took 8 hours to get home from Tahoe. Too bad they are moving the show the next three years. I think it is a mistake.
Ranchwife and I went to the show Saturday. I didn't think the show was as large as it has been in previous years. Both in number of people or number of venders. The storm may have kept some people home but I think gas prices are cutting into the venders travel budget.
I was looking for JHO people, but, like you, wasn't looking at hats! We spent four hours in Cabelas and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was frustrated at the choices of women's shoes; only about 25% of their stock was for women and then they didn't even have all the sizes in what they carried. It was quite frustrating. Enjoyed the whole experience though!
I should have added we made the stop at Cabelas on the way in. My 7-year old was in heaven. Every square inch of the place had him all starry-eyed. He came up to me after looking at the African Animal exhibit and said he got a little scared. He said he noticed three of the meat-eaters were staring at him! HA! Just about couldn't get him out of the store though. Course, with Mom pulling on both of us we finally left!
Kentuck,
I was supposed to meet up with Troy on Saturday and he said he was meeting up with you as well. Obviously didn't make it to the Primos booth at Noon, but hope you guys had a good time at the show. I was looking forward to meeting you guys.
That storm yesterday was a good one though wasn't it? I shoveled for about 2 hours this morning.
Troy got there about 12:45. I forgot to take his number but he told me today he didn't take his phone with him.
Ranchwife,
We were there about 4:30 to 6:00. I bet we saw you all. My son was enthralled with all the mounts. It was funny to see his reaction to everything. Makes a Dad proud. Momma probably just wanted to cry! HA! Almost made it out of there for under $100. But they had some ATV ramps $50 off and since I just bought my son a 50 hp ATV that seemed too good to pass up.
I went to the show on Friday afternoon, sat in on an archery elk hunting seminar, and watched some of the auction (I left when the Eastern Washington hunt got to $62k). I thought the show has gotten smaller and smaller over the years, it was rather underwhelming IMO. Spent a bucket of money at a bar at the Silver Legacy, the one with the dueling pianos. Good fun.
Then we spent about 6 hours at Cabela's on Saturday (didn't even go to the show). The store was OK, definitely not as big as some of the Bass Pro's I've been to, but I certainly enjoyed my time there. Walked out with a new pair of Alaska Hunter's by Meindl and a few other items.
The drive back on Sunday took a few hours longer than normal, what with all the knuckleheads having trouble driving in the snow.
