Well its 4:30 and im home, without a pig, Did see some fresh sign on 30, (and a dead one on the road between 10/13 and 30) but there was also a lot of bird hunters. Nothing wrong with that just if I would have known I would have got there a lot earlier and used them to my advantage. Its not a good thing when you walk in behind a bunch of guys with dogs when your hunting pigs. Ill say it again nothing wrong with the guys hunting birds.

All four sections are full so I cant switch. So i will get there real early and get all the way to the back and wait for the bird hunters to push the pigs. Sounds like a plan anyway. Hope it works. Will let you know sunday when I get home.

wtpops, to beat the bird hunters to the back of area 30 you can park along Jolon Rd and go thru one of the cattle guards. The only problem is getting across the creek about 100 yards in. It's usually muddy but if you have boots that don't leak about 8" high you're good to go.

The turnouts at the 2nd to last or last cattle guard as you head north on Jolon before you hit the closed area is good to park in. Saves you about a 30 minute walk and gives you time to pop a pig if they are there before the bird hunters get there.

OK O almost forgot to tell all what i did see. Two bucks one spike and one was very strange it was bald on one side and had what looked like two main beams going stright up they were about 12 to 18" tall about 6" apart at the tips and came together right at the base very strange looking. Saw about 10 does two at about 30 yards 5 at about 50 yards 3 at about 150 yards. Then I had a stare down with a bob cat at about 8 at yards it lasted about 3 or 4 min. then i moved and she bolted. I guess it was a female because it was kind of small, could have been a young tom. But it was way cool.

wtpopps-
i was out at FHL today as well. we checked into 25 and found a few big herds. hunted all morning and did not shoot one till 2 pm. they were just runnnig around us in the brush. finally one of my buddies hit one with his 41 mag from 20 feet in the brush and he turned and started to run up the hill. i blasted it from at 80 yards with my .454. droped it dead in its tracks. i was using the new pig seeking bullets. awesome bullets! it was a pretty big sow at about 160 lbs.

what kind of truck were you driving and what time did you check in? i was at the game shack at about 6:15 am. there was a pretty long line with rannie gone. rachelle (sp) was by herself. she was busy.

btw spectr17- i was also told that parking was not allowed on jolon road. i was parked there 2 years ago just watching the hogs at the egde of 30 when the FHL police pulled behind me and gave me the 3rd degree about how it is government property and it was not allowed etc. etc. did the whole called my id in and license etc. anyway just thought would let you know.

Hntboar. I checked in on Friday. I drive a 2005 GMC 2500 crew cab all black with a satlite dish on top.

Now for the update No Hog but had a good hunt just like yesterday. Saw 3 bucks 1 3x3, 1 good size fork and a small fork they were with about 5 does, got to within about 80 yards before i got busted) saw 2 other does. There was some good pig sign on 30 on the far north west side. Also ran into some turkeys about 15 or so. Got that spot pluged into my GPS. Was out of 30 by 11:00 switched to 29 (I got to try one of those drivable sections I bet I walked 15 miles this weekend) it looked the same as last time i was there (new years weekend) Good sign here and there lot of tracks.

And the elk were out in droves on the big gun range along with a few hogs (they proabley got pushed out of 25)

Going to be there for the Presidents day hunt hope to see some pigs then

sorry you did not see anything. 30 and 29 are good areas, but as you said lots of walking. when they open more areas you will find a few good driveable areas that have hogs. sounds like you had a good time and good luck on your next hunt out there. let me know when you go again and i will see if i can provide some feedback on the areas that are open.
