Ok, now that I'm not punch drunk from driving and hunting, I realize I replied to CA Karen thinking she started the thread...so, CL&RR, how'd it go? I hope you had a graat time and got back before the big storm. We had fun and were lucky-the ranch we hunted was full up animals. I even saw an elk traffic jam one morning as they headed to bed--literally 10-15 elk at a time waiting to get through a choke point. Everyone got it done by Friday and got to sleep in on Saturday.

Update later. Driving through Fallon Nevada looking at all the other elk hunters. 1 bull and 3 cows for the party.

Yes...tired, excited and eager to share = bad choices on tapatalk. I'm also hoping he fared well.

CL&RR, apologies for the hijacking and poor form on my part.

HOW DARE YOU THREAD JACK ME!

Just kidding, good to see you guys stacking them up though. I'm still sore and banged up our heards never left the timber at 10k feet. They were bunched in and hard to get to in 4ft of snow. What unit were you guys in?

Colorado update:

The anticipated snow storm hit on the opener and we were very optimistic that they would be funneling out of the high country, but because I brought my great hunting luck the elk never left 10k mark and bunkered down in the timber and Aspens. We had 7 guys in the group and were able to bag 5 elk total, 1 bull and 4 cows. We were able to view a few nice bulls with spotters but just never able to close the distance. I tagged the bull and had a very impressive 815 yard one shot kill on the lead cow. First time ever hunting elk so I think it was a successful trip to tag out. We were looking forward to leaving Monday after the season, but one of the hunters bucked down a huge cow Sunday evening, so all of Monday was spent packing out. My legs and back will take a few weeks to recover. One thing I learned from Elk hunting is, that when an elk goes down, the hunt ends for everyone. Beautiful country, freezing temps everyday and good friends to end a very good hunting season for me. Does anyone have a freezer they may want to get rid off, my two chest freezers are full.

my location and 800 yard shot.

CL&RR congrats on a great bull! Not only is your bull bigger, but your camo is better than Big Sea's as well. Sorry Big Sea, but you shot my birthday bull... I was in unit 13 with Big Sea Congratulations to both of you on your great bulls!

Ha - Slowpoker, you said pick a side (after I spotted them!) and For Once, I picked right, so no busting my balls.
And I do think your birthday bull arrived bigger, if a day late and in a more complicated spot.

Btw - CL&RR, our trip can't hold a candle to yours on difficulty--don't think we broke 7400 ft or 2 miles from the trucks. Congrats on the full freezers and successful trip.
